ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning, capping the burst with a grand slam that sent the Los Angeles Angels romping past the Texas Rangers 15-8 Monday night. Morales became the third switch-hitter in major league history to homer as a lefty and righty in the same inning. Carlos Baerga did it for Cleveland in 1993 and Mark Bellhorn of the Chicago Cubs duplicated the feat in 2002. The Angels won the opener of the four-game series and closed within four games of AL West-leading Texas. Morales connected for a two-run shot in the sixth as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt that put the Angels ahead 5-3. Morales then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross from the right side.

Texas Rangers stun the baseball world, land Ryan Dempster

The Texas Rangers have done it again. They landed a big arm at the trade deadline in the hopes of making a playoff push, and a deep run into the postseason. They acquired Cubs’ ace righty Ryan Dempster, sending two minor leaguers – Christian Villaneuva and Kyle Hendricks – to the Cubbies. Dempster’s numbers have been fantastic this season: 2.25 ERA; an ERA+ of 177, most in...

Feliz setback complicates things for Rangers

Right-hander Neftali Feliz, who was slated to make his fourth rehab start for Triple A Round Rock, was scratched from the outing because of soreness in his right elbow. The club is awaiting word from the team's medical staff to decide on the next step for Feliz, who is on the...

Rangers send Oswalt to bullpen

The Texas Rangers are moving Roy Oswalt to the bullpen after he was hit hard in his latest start. Texas general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that the move wasn't necessarily permanent. Oswalt gave up eight runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings Monday in a 15-8 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The 34-year-old righty is 3-2 with a 6.49 ERA in six starts. He signed as a free agent...

Hamilton hears boo-birds in Arlington

A new chapter in Josh Hamilton's long slump began Friday night. Call it the booing stage. For the first time since he joined the Texas Rangers, Hamilton was booed noticeably at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The boos came following a pair of strikeouts Friday in Texas' 9-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Hamilton went 0-for-4 to extend his current drought to 0-for-12....

Soto has been struggling lately, batting only .199 with six homers...

Weaver keeps Rangers' hitters at a loss

ARLINGTON, Texas On a day when the Rangers made a major pitching acquisition, they saw first-hand what a strong pitching performance can do for a team. Unfortunately for the Rangers, that pitching performance came from the Angels' Jered Weaver. Weaver shut out the Rangers for the first six innings Tuesday to lift the Angels to a 6-2 win. Weaver won his eighth consecutive...

Rangers need Dempster to turn thing around

ARLINGTON, Texas The Rangers barely beat the deadline on a trade for longtime Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster on Tuesday.
