The Tribe Daily:
So I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but after I got my laptop reformatted, I decided to beef up my security with A) Different Virus protection and B) More protection.
And the one Anti-Virus program that I downloaded probably required a better firewall in addition.
Well I downloaded said Firewall and have had problems ever since.
If you are out there, never download ZoneAlarm firewall. It's complete garbage. I've gotten rid of it, but traces of it are still around and still give me problems. It's too protective, it was always popping up with notifications and alerts and now it just cuts off loading pages for ever and it takes some time to reload and... It's just a pain in my ass.
Twitter hasn't loaded for the past five to six minutes.
See why I'm irritable sometimes?
Anyway, before I freaking kill someone for not being able to tweet the minor issues link, let's get going.
Let's lead off with Adam Miller news.
Miller underwent successful surgery on his finger, the second of two surgeries needed for him. And his hope is to be ready for Spring Training next year. I'm sure none of us are going to be holding our breath with him. We all know by now the talent he has, he just can't stay healthy. If he is back for next year and is able to go, great. If not, oh well. Anything from him at this point is bonus.
Speaking of injured pitchers that we hope to contribute next year.
I wondered why Jake Westbrook didn't go three innings, thinking maybe he reached the 50 pitch limit early. He didn't but he was damn close. I'm pretty sure 42 pitches is close enough to where they didn't bother sending him out again and I'm sure he did it on the side or something.
Either way, Wedge is not concerned and I don't think anyone else should be. Spiffy camouflage uniforms the Aeros had though. Too bad I didn't go.
Let's round-up the injury news. I mentioned Scott Lewis' rehab start in the minor issues and we've got one more note with Grady Sizemore.
I'm pretty pissed that Grady is still out there playing. I'm not going to lie, I don't agree with the move at all.
And of course I'm sure they don't want to disappoint fans and give them another reason to not come to the ballpark.
This is all on Grady Sizemore... If it was up to the Indians, and in a way it is, but if this was any other player who wasn't so insistent on playing, I bet he'd have had the surgery already.
But because this is Sizemore and this is why we love him, he's going to continue to play with this injury.
Whatever... I'm not going to say anything more on it. I love Grady for his toughness, but his toughness is now borderline on stupidity if you ask me. I mean really, he isn't letting anyone down if he has the surgery. It's a lost season, there is nothing to play for, and in reality, if you have the surgery, you are helping the team more. You get Jordan Brown up to take a look at both him and Trevor Crowe full-time and you are 100% ready for not just next year's season, but next year's spring training.
To last night's game...
Wedge had much praise for Laffey, and rightfully so. He's had an interesting year to say the least. From not winning a rotation spot when it was thought he would, to getting the call, pitching so well and then being rewarded with a move to the bullpen.
Then getting injured in that role.
Also, Ron Gardenhire had high praise for Laffey's effort last night.
But I also knew and accurately called for his first-half slump. It was just given for a player like Drubbie, who needed to learn with the stick and adjust. He did that and now he's fantastic and we've got ourselves a cornerstone to the franchise.
Still annoying issues.
I've got one more link and you can't really read this unless you are an ESPN Insider, but I'll relay some information about it for you, but it's content you need to pay for, so I can't really go deep.
Baseball Prospectus is a book I bought for the first time this year and now I'm reading this stat filled article that I still don't particularly understand.
But they've got a list of the 15 most disappointing teams in MLB with a theory stat. It's basically the projected win percentage subtracting the actual one. I don't know, but the Indians are number two, apparently the Nationals weren't supposed to be as bad as they actually are.
Look it basically tells me something I already knew and I didn't need stats to tell me it. Their bullpen sucks and things didn't go as planned and there are some players with big contracts that are injured or have been injured not making their contracts worth it.
Whatever... We get it, I didn't need some crazy statistical theory to tell me that. Further proving why I'd rather use play on field to decide if we should keep Franklin Gutierrez, not statistics.

"If he feels like he can go out and help us -- and I know he does and I know he has -- he'll continue to play. If we felt like he could hurt himself worse, then he wouldn't be playing. That's point-blank. At some point he might have to shut it down. We'll have to see."That's complete garbage if you ask me. Why? Because Eric Wedge and Mark Shapiro hate disappointing Sizemore, to tell him to sit the rest of the year out, would just be the ultimate disappointment for Sizemore and neither want to tell him to do that.
And of course I'm sure they don't want to disappoint fans and give them another reason to not come to the ballpark.

Then getting injured in that role.
"He's done everything we've asked him to do," Indians manager Eric Wedge said. "He's done a really good job for us. He just needs to keep pushing, keep getting better. As he continues to mature as a pitcher, I think that's going to happen."And Laffey said he'll do anything they ask of him, including left-on-left matchup specialist. That's a player, and that's why I gotta love him.
Also, Ron Gardenhire had high praise for Laffey's effort last night.
"He's deceptive," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of Laffey. "He's got all the pitches. He threw the ball very good against us today."And then we have the Todd time debuting. The Todd would speak to reporters and Eric Wedge said it's a good time to get him up in the majors, after just a few appearances with Columbus, it was evident he had nothing to prove down there.
"You always hear stories about guys getting traded when they're young," Todd said. "I never thought it would happen to me, but sure enough, it did. I'm excited about the new opportunity. I've got a positive attitude because it's a case where somebody wants you."I don't know but I've always had that special feeling with Asdrubal Cabrera, ever since 2007.
But I also knew and accurately called for his first-half slump. It was just given for a player like Drubbie, who needed to learn with the stick and adjust. He did that and now he's fantastic and we've got ourselves a cornerstone to the franchise.
"Asdrubal's a good player," Tribe manager Eric Wedge said. "He's had a lot of success early in his career. I think that he was humbled a little bit last year, but I think he had to go through that and just understand the adjustments he needed to make to be a good player up here."Twitter is loading slow, so maybe I was wrong and it looks like my tweet went through.. Wohooohoo...
"As long as he doesn't get complacent or take anything for granted, he has a chance to have a strong career," Wedge said. "He just needs to keep going, keep fighting through at-bats and work hard to get better at shortstop. He's doing a good job out there, the rest take care of itself."
Still annoying issues.
