St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Motte is often compared to former Cardinals reliever Chris Perez. Both power relievers came up through the Cardinals organization together and were at one point the future of Cardinals bullpen.
The Cardinals traded Perez in 2009 in a deal that brought over utility infielder Mark DeRosa. Since, Perez has become a stallwart in the ninth inning for the upstart Indians and was selected to this year's American League All-Star team.
Meanwhile, Motte was caught up in the middle of this season's bullpen drama. The organization took heat from a fan base that saw Perez close out games in Cleveland while the Cardinals struggled to find an answer to the back-end of the bullpen issues.
But recently, Jason Motte has certainly done his part to help silence critics. While not serving as the Cardinals closer as the front office once thought he would, Motte has become a very important and consistent performer in middle relief for the Cardinals.
