Bryce Brentz was on pace to participate in spring training with the Red Sox, but an early January accident will delay the start of his 2013 baseball season. Brentz shot himself in the leg while cleaning his shotgun, as first reported by WEEI.com. Ben Cherington confirmed the news while meeting with the media on Saturday. The 24-year-old outfielder said the injury is “nothing serious” and that he expects to be ready for the start of the season. Cherington said that Brentz is “lucky.” Brentz hit .290 split between AA Portland and AAA Pawtucket in 2012. He had 17 home runs, 76 RBIs and seven stolen bases. He is expected to start the 2013 season in Pawtucket. Brentz was drafted in the first round of the 2010 MLB draft out of Middle Tennessee State. He is listed as the Red Sox’ No. 6 prospect on SoxProspects.com. Photo via Facebook/Bryce Brentz

  • When they outlaw guns only idiots will have guns.
  • he should have had Obama show him how to handle a shotgun
  • What an idiot!!
  • Thats about par, usually the RedSox shoot themselves in the foot anyway in october
  • I am glad I take pleasure in stories like this. There are lots of 'em! This news about a careless idiot is what the country needs more of to make us smile. Glad he was only in severe, excruciating and intense pain, with loss of blood, and not killed.
  • I know he was going to the Red Sox but don't you thing he would have aimed for the little toe or something?
  • Rule # 1: As soon as you pick up a gun, as soon as anyone hands you a gun, you check/clear it.
  • No one said Baseball players were smart. You can also include football and basketball players as well. They all have their fair share of idiots just like any other profession.
  • When they outlaw idiots everyone can have a gun!
  • Glad this guy isn't in my Army outfit.
  • I get so sick and tired of hearing about "accidental" shootings. It's not accidental, it's just plain stupid! Trailertrash said it right.
  • Are they sure he was heading to the Red Socks and not the Cubs?
Obama will take away the guns from the law abiding. How does he plan to get them away from the criminals? The Liberal media doesn't have an answer for that one, do they?
  • I would shoot myself too if I were playing for the Red Fraud's!!
  • Well no one has accused BB players as being the smartest people in the world. But cleaning a loaded gun, wow. He's a very lucky kid. All people owning a gun should be required to take a class on gun safety. I know some of you are just to smart to learn anything.
  • I have to laugh when I hear someone shot themselves while cleaning their gun ; is that the best story they can come up with. What idiot cleans a loaded gun...rofl. I wonder how he really got shot in the leg.

Bryce Harper on Nationals: ‘People want to see us fail’

Bryce Harper is refusing to back-off his bold statements in which he more or less stated that the Washington Nationals are not only World Series contenders, the team should be considered the favorites. “I was like, ‘Where’s my ring?’” was Harper’s apparent reaction to learning the Nationals signed Max Scherzer. The young, brash Nationals superstar...Read More The post...
