And just like that, Jayson Werth is a celebrity in the nation’s capital. Earlier today we showed you this fantastic cupcake that was designed in Werth’s honor on Thursday night. As you can see from the photo above that Lauren DeMarco of Fox 5 in Washington, D.C. tweeted, local bakers weren’t the only ones who caught Werth fever after his big walk-off homer in Game 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals, tying the NLDS at two games apiece.

The Fox 5 crew got ready for Game 5 on Friday by breaking out some big grizzly beards and going about their business.  They weren’t the only ones to pull the stunt on live television, as David Wells paid homage to Werth’s hair on Thursday night. Via Big League Stew:

If Werth does something to help the Nationals win Game 5 and advance to the NLCS on Friday, we might just see the internet break.

Thanks to D.C. Sports Bog for pointing out the pics

Cardinals can close out Nationals in NLDS Game 4

Jayson Werth's Washington Nationals were as good as it got during the regular season, compiling a majors-high 98 wins. That doesn't count for much come the postseason, where the St. Louis Cardinals excel. So what if manager Tony La Russa retired after last year's World Series title? Who cares that slugger Albert Pujols left via free agency? Just like in 2011, the Cardinals...

Nationals 2, Cardinals 1

Lance Lynn needed only a few words to describe a 13-pitch at-bat. ''Three-two heater. He beat me.'' There were more questions for the St. Louis Cardinals reliever, of course, but the answers were more or less the same. He went mano-a-mano with Jayson Werth in the bottom of the ninth inning of a playoff game, losing the battle when the Washington leadoff hitter put...
