Derek Jeter claims he already knew he had a stress fracture in his left foot before he broke it in Game 1 of the ALCS last October — but kept it a secret from the Yankees.

Manager Joe Girardi said he never heard that term associated with Jeter's foot, which took a pounding by foul balls late last season, reported The New York Post.

General manager Brian Cashman was also kept in the dark about Jeter's "bone bruise" and said he doesn't know what happened between the bruise and the break which ended the shortstop's season and led to the operating table.

If you're looking for some dirt on the Yankees captain — this little white lie is probably as good as it gets.

"They told me it was a bone bruise and I am not going to ask them to look at it again, and eventually it turned into a stress fracture and broke in half," Jeter said about his left ankle. "If you play, you play. I don’t think you talk about injuries because then it’s an excuse. I was told I was able to play. Unfortunately it broke, but I would do the same thing over again if I had to."

Yankees: 4 top prospects to keep your eyes on

The future of the New York Yankees is up in the air. Yankee Stadium on July 1, 2010 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Unlike the past decade, or since the infamous Core Four, the Yankee brass wants to depend on the farm system to produce the team’s future stars. The last homegrown star to come up was Brett Gardner back in 2008. Here are four of the Yankees top prospects that I think have...

New York Yankees: What is wrong with the farm system?

What is wrong with the New York Yankees farm system?  New York Yankees logo. I will get right to the point. As of today, the state of the Yankees farm system is actually irrelevant. And here is why. REASON ONE: Fact is it does not house the talent to immediate help the team in 2013. Too many of the top prospects took a step back last season due to injuries and promotions. Obviously...

Derek Jeter had a stress fracture in his foot, told no one

Before fracturing his ankle in game one of the ALCS against the Tigers last October, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was told he had a stress fracture in his foot. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that the team only knew about a bone bruise, and manager Joe Girardi agreed with that statement. But during a media session on Sunday, Jeter came out with the revelation of the stress fracture...

Derek Jeter Says He Had a Terrible Off-Season

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports Derek Jeter had a rough off-season. Pictures surfaced around the web of his weight-gain, having to move around his house in a motor scooter and having to learn how to walk again after he was rehabbing for an ankle injury he suffered in last year’s playoffs. “My off-season was terrible,” Jeter said at his standing-room-only news conference on...

an Early Starting-Five Eval: New York Yankees

AL BEast Notebook – Feb 19 Despite the pressure and media microscope, pitching for the Yankees lately has had its advantages as the Bombers have led the league in either home runs or runs scored (or both) in each of the last four seasons. That may not be the case in 2013 as the Yankees will be without Swisher, Martin, Ibanez and A-Rod, so the room for error will be smaller. Starting...

What Do The Stats Tell Us About A Wright and Jeter Comparison?

They are being overtaken by an unknown hacker who is then tweeting sometimes-offensive comments from the accounts. First, it was Burger King who was hacked. Then it was Jeep: .@jeep Glad everything is back to normal. — BurgerKing (@BurgerKing) February 19, 2013 It...
