From The Outside Corner:

The latest entry in the "ridiculous Spring Training injury" category this February goes to Tampa Bay Rays reliever Joel Peralta. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported the injury Wednesday, which resulted in Peralta hurting his neck while getting out of his car (a Camaro, apparently) after he stopped to get sandwiches.

That's right: he hurt his neck getting sandwiches. That's a new one. All should be OK though, as Topkin later reported that Peralta wouldn't miss much time with his stiff neck, and that the sandwiches (from a local place in Port Charlotte called Cuban Taste) were delicious.

This is a much weirder story than Peralta getting ejected from a game last summer for having a foreign substance on his glove, but I'm not sure if it's weirder than Bryce Brentz shooting himself through his leg or Carl Pavano rupturing his spleen after falling while shoveling snow. It's definitely up there, though.

  • Mr. Pavano. When shoveling snow and feeling your going to fall, try to fall in the soft snow rather than the PAVEMENT.
