The Angels' Mark Trumbo has tremendous power, and the 27-year-old put that talent on display in Oakland on Monday night in an AL West divisional battle against the A's.

Trumbo absolutely destroyed an offering from Oakland's Dan Sally to give the Angels a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.

The bomb was estimated at 475 feet (and I personally think that estimation is a little short), tying Trumbo with the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo for the longest MLB home run so far in 2013.

Trumbo now has four homers in the early going, after hitting 32 homers in 2012 and 29 homers in 2011.

  • Too bad your facts are wrong...Todd Frazier from my Cincinnati Reds hit a 480ft. bomb to dead center on Apr. 22. So this is a tie for second place.

  • According to http://www.hittrackeronline.com/top_true_distance.php,
He is not on the list for that day. I am assuming this is where this guy got his stats. He does show up for a few other home runs but not the one you are referring to.
  • thank you mike19v ! I was going to correct them also !! Its too bad Fraze doesnt get the headlines or credit...GO REDS !!!

Mark Trumbo Launches a 475-foot Home Run

The Angels’ Mark Trumbo launched one of the longer home runs we have seen in some time on Monday night against the A’s.   Had to just watch in awe as the ball traveled an estimated 475 feet which is no easy feat.  The 27-year-old stud has got some power.  If accurate on the measurement, only Anthony Rizzo of the Cubbies has a long ball of that length this year. Mark Trumbo's monstrous homer, and the joke of "estimated" measurements

Measuring home runs has proven over time to be an inexact science. You would think with the modern marvels of pitch and hit tracking, that we'd have a greater knowledge of home run distance, or even technology in place in every stadium/telecast that could enhance fans' viewing experience. This clearly isn't the case in Oakland. On Monday evening, Mark Trumbo hit a bomb...

Oakland fans honor Hamilton for error

Josh Hamilton might have been disappointed that he was booed in his return to Arlington earlier this month. He had to be downright puzzled by what happened in Oakland Monday. Hamilton was the lone Los Angeles player who was cheered during the marathon 10-8 Oakland win in 19 innings. The logic behind the cheering was simple it was Josh Hamilton Appreciation Night. A Facebook...

10 things to know about Howie Kendrick

Howie Kendrick made a mockery of minor league pitching as he climbed the ranks of the Angels organization from 2002-06. He flirted with .400 on occasion and never hit below .342 for a season in the minors. Hes been a steady bat in the Angels lineup through seven big league seasons, but theres more about him than just baseball. He learned to ride a bike at the age of two And...

Los Angeles Angels Option Pitcher Michael Roth

The Los Angeles Angels have optioned pitcher Michael Roth to Triple-A Salt Lake, their farm affiliate. Struggling this season, having allowed a 9.31 ERA, he was sent to the minors to try and find his groove and regain his confidence. There is a good chance that he will be back sooner or later with the parent club. The post Los Angeles Angels Option Pitcher Michael Roth appeared...

Josh Hamilton Honored by A’s Fans With Special Night, Butterfingers After Helping Oakland With Muffed Catch (Video)

Josh Hamilton may be struggling at the plate, but at least he’s still a good sport. Hamilton and his new team, the Angels, went to Oakland on Monday for a three-game set, and the A’s used the occasion to honor the player who has found a special place in their hearts. As a member of the Texas Rangers, Hamilton blew a catch in the final game of last year’s season to help Oakland...

VIDEO: Mike Scioscia forgets the rule about mound visits and pitching changes

Just when it looks like things can't get any worse for the Angels, Mike Scioscia goes and makes a fool of himself. This scene from last night's Angels-Athletics games features a confused Scioscia heading out to the mound with a 3-1 count on Adam Rosales. Of course Scioscia can't do that because pitching coach Mike Butcher went out for a mound visit to pitcher Nick Maronde...

Peter Bourjos Placed On 15-Day Disabled List By Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have placed outfielder Peter Bourjos on the 15-day disabled list after straining his left hamstring. Because his asset is speed, this could be a tricky recovery and Los Angeles will want to make sure that there will be no chance at re-aggravation. Scott Cousins was called up to help fill the void. J.B. Shuck also will see some time. The post Peter Bourjos...

On an Intentional Ball Thrown to Albert Pujols

Monday night and Tuesday morning, the A’s and Angels played a game for the ages, a 19-inning affair that saw the hosts rally in the ninth and the 15th before walking off in the game’s seventh hour. The game featured 18 runs and nearly 600 pitches, and in the end, the A’s improved to 15-12, while the Angels fell to something much worse than that. Generally, such games are immediately...

Brandon Moss walk-off homer ends 19-inning affair with Angels (Video)

After 19 innings, 6 hours and 32 minutes, 16 runs, 597 pitches, 16 pitchers being used, awful umpiring, inconclusive home run reviews, multiple players on both sides leaving with injuries, stir-crazy fans chanting A’s broadcasters’ names (because why not in the 17th inning?), A’s pitchers going to bat without any remaining position players, Mike Trout comically missing fly...

An exhausted Brandon Moss threw a pie in his own face after hitting the home run that ended the major league's longest game this season. Moss hit his second home run of the night with two outs in the 19th inning early Tuesday, giving the Oakland Athletics a 10-8 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. The teams were on the field for 6 hours, 32 minutes in a game that ended at...

Josh Ham' 'N Egger

Photo Credit: Keepers   I own zero shares of Josh Hamilton, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since I left him outside my top 10 in the OF edition of “Tiers, Not Fears.” Yet while I didn’t expect him to provide ample draft day value, I didn’t think he’d be this awful.    Is Josh Hamilton a lost cause? Or will God’s favorite addict pull off...

NFL's attempt to explain Rice suspension less than convincing

The National Football League has some of the highest-paid public relations personnel in the United States. This is one of the primary reasons that it has been able to skirt some major issues in the past as it relates to how the public perceives the league.  Unfortunately for the league, the two-game suspension Ray Rice received for assaulting his now wife Janay Palmer earlier this...

Emmanuel Sanders: Peyton 'far better leader' than Big Ben

Emmanuel Sanders has plenty of respect for his former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but it hasn’t taken him long to figure out that Peyton Manning is an even better leader. Sanders caught 11 touchdowns in four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and left to sign with the Denver Broncos in March. During an interview Friday with […]

Court rules against Donald Sterling's block of Clips sale

Probate court judge Michael Levanas of the California Superior Court ruled on Monday that Donald Sterling could not block the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers. Unsurprisingly, Levanas found Rochelle Sterling, Donald Sterling’s wife, to be the more credible witness of the two and he also ruled that sale of the team could begin immediately. Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft executive...

WATCH: MMA fighter working at gas station beats up robbers

The robbers thought they had a good plan. Wait until one of the employees from the gas station came back from the bank and jump him before he knew what hit him. One small problem though, they didn’t take into account another employee happening to be a mix martial arts fighter. Best part of the video is after the big man of the robbers’ crew is beaten down, his boy thinks about...

Astros players upset with Mark Appel's promotion

More than most sports, baseball is about “earning your spot.” Players have to work their way through four or five levels of the minors before getting their chance in the big leagues, and some guys wait close to 10 years before they get their shot. So it’s at least understandable when players get upset over a specific player getting the benefit of the doubt, or getting a promotion...
