Yankees general manager Brian Cashman broke his right leg and dislocated the ankle while skydiving in Florida.

Cashman jumped with the U.S. Army Golden Knights in a plane from Homestead Air Reserve Base outside Miami, a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project. He was hurt on his second jump Monday.

The Yankees said X-rays at Homestead Hospital revealed a broken fibula and dislocated ankle. Cashman was scheduled for surgery later in the day with Dr. Dominic Carreira at Broward Health Medical Center.

''I'm in great spirits, and it was an awesome experience,'' Cashman said in a statement. ''The Golden Knights are first class. While I certainly didn't intend to raise awareness in exactly this fashion, I'm extremely happy that the Wounded Warrior Project is getting the well-deserved additional attention.''

The 45-year-old, who has been the team's GM since February 1998, also has rappelled down a 350-foot, 22-story building in Stamford, Conn., in an elf's costume the past two Decembers as part of the town's ''Heights and Lights'' celebration.

John Harper of The Daily News shared a photo of Cashman laying on the ground waiting to receive medical attention.

Cashman’s skydive benefitted the Wounded Warrior Project, so at the very least he can take comfort knowing that his pain is paying off. Here we are thinking that incredibly strange spring training injuries like this and this can only happen to players. Little did we know, GMs are just as susceptible.

Time for Brian Cashman to grow up

When Yankees GM Brian Cashman started his "look at me, I'm rappelling" nonsense a few years ago, I got hate mail from his minions for daring to criticize his immaturity. Apparently, if you act like a complete knucklehead, risking your life and health, but it's for charity, it's perfectly acceptable to some people. I wondered then about what would happen if something...

For Brian Crashman, the man who traded Jesus and said no to Johnny, running the Yankees must be a tedious, boring nightmare

If Brian Cashman was a player, the Yankees would have traded him by now. One too many back page headlines, and one too many disastrous deals. And Monday would have been the final straw.  The guy who questioned Joba Chamberlain’s decision to jump on a trampoline with his son just snapped his leg like Joe Theisman while leaping from a plane. The guy who said no to a second act of...
