Carlos Muniz was drafted by the Mets in 2003 after a successful collegiate career as the Cal. State Long beach closer. He amassed 100 saves in the minors before ever reaching AAA. In 2006 at A+ he appeared in 48 games in which he accrued 31 saves with a 3.08 ERA. The next season in his first season at AA he saved 23 games with a 2.45 ERA in 44 games.It was in 2007 he received his first call up during the 2007 collapse when Wagner's back was bothering him, see this post. He appeared in two games with a 7.71 ERA. In 2008 he split time between AAA and the majors, in 18 major league games he had an ERA of 5.40 and in AAA he had an ERA of 3.93 in 33 games with 9 saves.Camp of last year he was making an impression with a new pitch a split finger fastball, he didn't have a chance of making the team out of camp but he was a solid call-up candidate.
