It's taken me a full night of silence. Seven or so hours of quiet contemplation. I've still spoken little this morning. I am just finally coming around to the point of potential verbal communication to other human beings. The reason? For those who know me, the answer is quite simple: the New York Metropolitans.
We Mets fans are a masochistic lot. In some ways, such is the nature of being a fan of any sports team. But this is starting to get re-g-d-damn-diculuous. I'm not sure whether the old edicts about fans having short-term or long-term memories are true. This I know. Last night was one of the most painful Mets games I can recall experiencing.
Most sports fans have likely seen the gory details replayed on ESPN or other sports networks' highlights shows. It does the game no justice. This was torture on a demented level. Compare it to the most disturbing horror movies you've seen, the ones that frighten you in that you ponder how such thoughts ever entered...
