“The Mets have agreed to terms on a major league contract with Scott Hairston, according to a person familiar with the deal.  The contract is pending a physical.”
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports added to the story also, tweeting the following… #bbpBox_154970830303006720 a { text-decoration:none; color:#009999; }#bbpBox_154970830303006720 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }scott hairston will get $1.1M from mets in '12, give or take a few penniesabout 8 hours ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite@JonHeymanCBSJon Heyman Martino then added… #bbpBox_155007215273648128 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_155007215273648128 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }They brought back Scott Hairston, but Mets aren't likely to attempt to re-sign Willie Harris, I'm now told.about 6 hours ago via UberSocial for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite@SurfingTheMetsAndy Martino So it seems that the Mets had to choose between Scott Hairston and Willie Harris. They probably are commanding a similar price tag. I guess the Mets value Hairston more than Harris. Willie Harris is faster, can play center field (a position that the Mets are thin at), and is better defensively. Yes, I know that Hairston has some pop in his bat; but, I truly believe the team should have signed Harris instead. Willie Harris also definitely enjoyed his time as a New York Met, and he said that he wanted to re-sign with the team. Also, do we really want him making more catches against the Mets like back in the olden days? It’s not the end of the world. But, I think Willie Harris, especially after losing Reyes and Pagan’s speed, would help this team more than Hairston. I sure hope that the Mets didn’t sign Hairston because he was cheaper than Harris. Pure speculation, but who knows…
