Matt Hague has been recalled from Indy and Nate McLouth has been designated for assignment. — Pittsburgh Pirates (@Pirates) May 25, 2012   Today it was announced that OF Nate McLouth has been designated for assignment by the Pirates and that Matt Hague has been recalled from AAA-Indianapolis. McLouth has had a dreadful start to 2012 and is 0 for his last 21 at-bats. For the year he hit .140/.210/.175 in 62 plate appearances. Pirates designate OF McLouth for assignment

The Pirates on Friday designated outfielder Nate McLouth for assignment, and recalled outfielder Matt Hague from Triple-A Indianapolis. McLouth, signed as a free agent on Dec. 7, hit just .140 with Pittsburgh, scoring four runs while driving in two more in 57 at-bats. Hague began the season with the Pirates, going 1-for-9 with two RBIs in five games before being optioned April...

Matt Hague is in, NATE McLOUTH IS OUT

Nasty Nate 2.0 lasted just 44 games. Not quite what we had in mind when he re-signed with the Pirates back in December. Seriously, we were really expecting big things from him back in the Burgh. The Buccos just designated Nate McLouth for assignment to make room on the roster for Matt Hague. We can’t say we didn’t see this coming; If you thought the .182 Nate hit in April...

Nate McLouth DFA’d, Matt Hague recalled

(via Twitter) Hooray! This won’t turn around the Pirates’ offensive woes, of course, but everyone was growing tiresome of seeing Nate on the team. Hague was not hitting particularly well in Indianapolis, but certainly will be a much better  option as a pinch-hitter than McLouth was. ©2012 Raise the Jolly Roger. All Rights Reserved..

Pittsburgh Pirates: It’s About to Get Interesting

Pittsburgh Pirates: It’s About to Get Interesting isportswebDespite being only 4 games under .500, Pirates’ fans sense something catastrophic is brewing. 1.  Bob Smizik- one of the only Pittsburgh sports writers apparently unfearful of speaking negatively about the Pirates- hammered the team’s farm system, arguging that it’s far more hype than substance.  It’s hard...

Nate McLouth is gone, the Cubs are in town

Sorry to have fallen off the face of the Earth the last couple of days; I've been working like a maniac trying to put together a talk for a conference next week and there just aren't hours in the day sometimes. The Pirates DFA'd Nate McLouth today, which pretty much anyone anywhere could've seen coming, and replaced him with Matt Hague. Hague probably won't help...

Pittsburgh Pirates: 1-0 (This is how They’ll have to Win)

(Opening image credit Gene Puskar, AP) Last night, the Pirates beat a free-falling Cubs team 1-0 to move to 21-24 on the season.  SP A.J. Burnett qualified for the win with 5.1 innings of shutout, 6-hit ball, while four members of the surprisingly strong bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings.  A quick rundown of thoughts: 1.  The strength of the entire team’s pitching has...

AAA Indianapolis | Indianapolis 4 Louisville 1Alex Presley was 3/4 and was just a home run shy of the cycle. Jeff Larish and Brian Friday had two hits. Starling Marte was 0/3 with an RBI. Saturday 5/26 Minor League Roundup

AAA Indianapolis | Louisville 5 Indianapolis 4Jeff Karstens made a rehab start for the Indians and pitched well early on before giving up a five spot in the fifth inning. Only three of the runs were earned, but it was enough to kill any chance the Indians had at winning tonight. Former Pirate Sean Gallagher was the winning pitcher, he went 7 innings and gave up just two runs. Starling...

Off Day Perspective

You love the Pittsburgh Pirates. I love the Pittsburgh Pirates, it's a special bond that joins thousands of strangers together. There are ups and down every year, unfortunately there are far more downs than ups.Which is why it's important in my eyes to enjoy an off day like today. Watching the Pirates play this year has been gruesome. Probably 40 of their 44 games have had...

Paul Maholm is stalking me

So, I'm in Pittsburgh for 24 hours, going to the Pirates game tonight AND PAUL MAHOLM IS STILL PITCHING EVEN THOUGH HE'S NOT A PIRATE ANYMORE. Kevin Correia is pitching for the Pirates, which ... is awesome. First pitch is at 7:10, because it's a FOX game.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs – Game 45

It’s very rare I can combine things I really like. This time I knocked it out of the park. I love wrestling, CM Punk, Frank Sinatra, and of course the Pirates. So I just knew I had to include that! Hopefully the Pirates used their day off to LEARN HOW TO HIT A BASEBALL LIKE [...]
