Yu Darvish vs. Zack Greinke. Now that’s a Fan Appreciation Day pitching match-up I can get behind. And it was pretty thrilling, probably moreso for Rangers fans.
The Rangers bats got to Greinke early, scoring four times on four hits in the first three innings. The last RBI hit was off the bat of Adrian Beltre in the 3rd, and then Greinke seemed to settle down. The Rangers only got two hits off him from then until he left the mound in the 8th.
Yu Darvish, after skipping a start earlier in the week, looked far from rusty. He struck out seven and allowed three runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. Sure it would have been nice to see him pitch longer, but I’ll take it. He pitched well enough for a win, and it’s sad he didn’t get one.
Beltre rarely looks like he struggles at his job either. Whether it’s at the plate or standing guard at third, he always makes it look easy. Today, he made a diving stop and throw that made Steve Busby say, “A minor miracle just happened at third base.”
