Joe Nathan will become a free agent this off-season after the Twins declined to pick-up his 12.5 M option. The all-time Twins save leader and four time All-Star successfully returned from T.J. surgery this season in which he posted a 4.84 ERA and 14 saves in 48 appearances. Between 2004-2009 Nathan averaged 68 appearances a season with 40 saves and a 2.16 ERA. In his return not only did his ERA balloon to 4.84 but at one point he relinquished the closers role and landed on the DL. Nathan is a local product, he graduated Pine Bush H.S. and then went on to SUNY Stony Brook. He said he wants to sign somewhere to be the closer and that at 37 y/o wants to go to a team where he has the opportunity to win now. While the Mets need a closer they don't appear to be the win now type team, however; Nathan said he'd consider the Mets and that they were a team he followed when he was young..."We're definitely not counting any teams out. But obviously, the Mets are going to ...

I love writing about the Mets. However, writing is frequently a solo occupation and it can be a very lonely thing. Fortunately, writing on the Internet is somewhat interactive and we have the comments section where readers can chime in and tell you how brilliant you are.
Of course, they can also chime in and tell you the exact opposite. And let’s face it, fewer things in life...
Freed prisoner, Ilan Grapel, had a tough five months in an Egyptian jail, but was finally freed this week. The 27-year-old US-Isreali citizen was freed in a prisoner swap between Egypt and Isreal. He was arrested on June 12 after he was attending a demonstration in Cairo. He was accused of spying for Isreal. But, however, Grapel was tricked that the New York Mets won the World Series...
After the 1st season under the leadership of field manager Terry Collins and front office executive Sandy Alderson the franchise seems to be heading in the right direction, the New York Mets enter the 2011-2012 offseason with some major question marks. The biggest, obviously, is the status of star SS Jose Reyes, who won the National [...]
If history holds, the Twins won't be big spenders when the market opens this week -- a strategy that might be sound, given the hit-or-miss nature of big-money signings.
Jose Reyes officially became a free agent for the first time yesterday, and that doesn't figure to change anytime soon.
The Mets' five-day window to exclusively negotiate with the All-Star shortstop ends at midnight on Thursday, when Reyes and his agents can find out what other teams think he...
The Mets do not plan to make an offer to free-agent shortstop Jose Reyes anytime soon, general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday, nor do they expect Reyes to sign before December.
Ilan Grapel, the Queens native freed from an Egyptian prison, was told the New York Mets won the World Series as a prank, according to a report.
On his first day of freedom after being released from an Egyptian
jail, New York native Ilan Grapel got a good-natured round of
punishment when he was told the New York Mets won the 2011 World
With the conclusion of the World Series last night, the Hot Stove season officially begins today.

The Mets detailed the changes they’re making to Citi Field:
The walls will be uniformly lowered to eight feet, with a new wall of that height being placed in front of the current 15-foot wall in left field, which some people have come to call the Great Wall of Flushing. About 100 seats will be placed in the gap between the walls in a design that would seem to mimic the several...
The Mets name a first-base coach: Tom Goodwin, a former minor league coordinator for the Red Sox.
On June 5th, the New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 6-5 to improve their record to 28-31 on the year. That would be the last game Queens native Ilan Grapel would see. Grapel was arrested June 12 while attending a demonstration in Cairo and was accused of spying for Israel. (which shockingly he denies) This idiot was not only jailed for 5 months in a grimy Egyptian jail….but...
