Washington Nationals outfielder Michael Morse has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, the team announced Friday. To make room on the roster, the Nationals optioned outfielder Corey Brown to Class AAA Syracuse. Morse, 30, has missed the Nationals' first 50 games with latissimus dorsi strain. He batted .381 with one homer and five RBIs in seven minor-league games during his rehabilitation assignment. Last season, Morse was the Nationals' leader in batting (.303), doubles (36), home runs (31) and RBIs (95). Brown, 26, went hitless in three games this season.

Apparently Michael Morse is on Twitter

Welcome to Twitter, Michael Morse? Even more important than the question "Will Mike Morse return to the Nationals lineup on Friday?" is the question "Is @MLBeastMode38 really Michale Morse?" Still trying to verify, but the pro-Heat Tweets seem to be a dead giveaway. (Image of Morse in a sombrero for Cinco de Mayo via Morse's Facebook page) Befriend...

Death, taxes, and the Marlins beating the Nationals

(Dear Davey Johnson, Please stop pitching to Giancarlo Stanton. Sincerely, NatsTown. Screencap via MASN) "We hit a hot team at the wrong time. We’re still in first place. We have to go out there Friday and say: We’re still in first place. We’re still the team to beat." (Ross Detwiler, via Washington Post, 5/31/2012) Marlins 5, Nationals 3: Johnson beats...

Should Xavier Nady Still Be In The Majors?

Coming into the 2012 season, the Nationals felt very confident with their corner outfield situation for the first time in a long time.  Last season’s team MVP, Michael Morse, was set to start the season in left while last season’s huge acquisition, Jayson Werth, claimed right.  Their back-ups, Roger Bernadina and veteran Mark DeRosa, were also solid experienced major leaguers...

Merry Morsemas!

And so, tonight is the long awaited return of Michael Morse to the Nationals lineup (weather permitting); Davey Johnson has him batting cleanup. We'll call it: Morsemas. Meanwhile, after it was confirmed yesterday that Mike Morse really WAS on Twitter as @mlbeastmode38 -- despite a denial from Nats PR staff -- as of 4:30 PM Friday the @mlbeastmode38 account is "suspended...

Who Should Roam The Nationals Outfield When Morse Returns?

Michael Morse is on schedule to return to the Nationals in the next week, which is obviously great news. The Nats are in the bottom half of the league in runs, batting average, on-base, and slugging, and Morse led the team in all four of those categories last season. But in order to get him back in the lineup, someone has to lose his job, and the answer is obvious. The semi-regular...

Strasburg strikes out nine in 7 innings

Even though Stephen Strasburg is on a three-game winning streak, his most recent starts hadn't been especially smooth. On Saturday, he threw freely and easily, pitching four-hit ball for seven sharp innings to help lead the Washington Nationals over the Atlanta Braves 2-0. Strasburg (6-1) completed seven shutout innings for the first time in his major league career. He opened...

Michael Morse Returns To Starting Lineup

The Washington Nationals have activated outfielder Michael Morse from the disabled list on Friday. The power hitting right fielder returns to his first action of the season tonight as the Nationals face off against the Atlanta Braves. It remains to be seen if the 30 year old Morse can replicate his breakout 2011 season in which he hit a career high 31 home runs, with a .303 batting...

Rain postpones Braves-Nationals game

Friday night's game between the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves has been postponed by rain. No immediate makeup date was announced. That means the Nationals will have to wait at least one more day to get Michael Morse back in the lineup. Activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier Friday, Morse was scheduled to make his season debut. The hard-hitting outfielder...

Nationals Try To Continue Success Against Braves

Last week when the Washington Nationals (29-21) and the Atlanta Braves (28-24) were set to face each other, the Braves were the second place team in the National League East and were one game away from snatching first place from the Nationals. Just one week later the two teams are about to do it all over again, but with some significant differences in standings and in roster...
