Stephen Strasburg is nearly outhitting Michael Morse this spring.

(Stephen Strasburg looked quite pleased with himself after his infield hit Tuesday night. Screengrab via MLB.com) Stephen Strasburg registered his best start of the spring on Tuesday night against the Mets. His line: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR. 6-3 groundouts-strikeouts, 85 pitches, 54 strikes. Oh, and his breaking ball was nasty (just ask poor Adam Loewen). Best...

Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez enjoy a laugh together.

While you're sitting around trying to distract yourself from the reality of Michael Morse's "lat strain" and considering performing a platelet-rich plasma treatment on yourself, and freaking out about the discomfort Drew Storen is feeling in his right arm (not to mention injuries to Wang, LaRoche, Burnett), enjoy the heartwarming screengrab above (via MLB.com...

Stephen Strasburg Should Not Start on Opening Day for the Washington Nationals

Stephen Strasburg has not earned the right to be the Opening Day Starter for the Washington Nationals. Not yet at least. Manager Davey Johnson bestowed this honor upon Stephen Strasburg because he is the team's most talented pitcher.  But this privilege could have been granted to other members of the staff: Most Experienced Pitcher: Edwin Jackson.  The 28-year-old right hander...

Nats' Strasburg gets Opening Day start

Stephen Strasburg has been picked by the Washington Nationals to make his first Opening Day start on April 5 at the Chicago Cubs. Nationals manager Davey Johnson made the announcement Tuesday, a day after the 23-year-old had his best outing of spring training. He allowed one run and two hits in five innings against the New York Mets, striking out three and walking one. Newcomer...

Stephen Strasburg To Start Opening Day for Nationals

Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg has officially earned the Opening Day start for the team in Chicago on April 5, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com.  This finally ended the weeks long debate on who would get that start. Strasburg is entering the first full season of his MLB career, after about three months of starts in 2010 and missing most of the 2011 season recovering...

Nationals not expecting P Wang back for a while

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said righthander Chien-Ming Wang could be sidelined longer than expected. Johnson said he does not expect Wang to be back on the mound for a month because of the severity of his hamstring injury suffered last week. "He's got a lot of bleeding in there," Johnson said Wednesday. Wang was hurt while attempting to cover first...

Mets 2, Nationals 0

Stephen Strasburg rebounded from his worst start of the spring, giving up only two hits in five innings, but Lucas Duda homered to help the New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 2-0 on Tuesday night. Strasburg struck out three and walked one, throwing 85 pitches. Mets starter Dillon Gee was even better in 5 2-3 spotless innings, allowing three hits - including one to Strasburg...

Hanson, Lannan both shine as Braves top Nationals

Washington left-hander John Lannan allowed three hits in four scoreless innings, and the Nationals lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-2 in 10 innings Wednesday. Lannan, who struck out two and walked one, would become Washington's No. 5 starter if right-hander Chien-Ming Wang doesn't recover from a strained left hamstring in time to take his first turn. Braves starter Tommy Hanson...

Getting Strasburg To October

Last season, the Nationals stuck to a strict plan with Jordan Zimmermann’s workload. This season, the team has another workload to manage with intense scrutiny in the person of Stephen Strasburg. While the Nats have hinted at to how they will proceed with him — they don’t want to jerk him around, they will likely keep him to the same 160-inning cap as Zimmermann last year —...

#Panicmode

(Michael Morse pretending to place a call during a photo shoot for 22 Fresh during the offseason. Was he calling his doctor?) "To be clear, it’s really unclear." (Davey Johnson, via Nationals Journal, 3/22/2012) So, we've been asking for weeks now. We'll ask again: Is it NOW appropriate to begin panicking about Mike Morse? Still too soon? ...

Madison Bumgarner > You, or: The children are our future

It has been decided! Stephen Strasburg will start opening day for the Washington Nationals! Be careful driving out there as I’m sure the streets are littered with streamers and empty plastic cups. I just assume there’s been Mardi Gras style partying since the media has been treating this news as something more than a ESPN ticker update. But since Stephen Strasburg is such a young...
