Nationals Add...Zach Duke?

For a team like the Washington Nationals that entered camp with seven players who had a legitimate shot at making the team's rotation, it might seem odd to end camp by signing a 28-year-old veteran starting pitcher. That move seems even odder when you consider the Nats' pickup, Zach Duke, was just recently released by the worst team in baseball, the Houston Astros, after...

Duke and Cust were worth a look for Astros

The Astros released outfielder Jack Cust and pitcher Zach Duke early Tuesday. It should have come as no surprise. Neither had performed at all as expected during the spring. Since both had to win spots on the roster with nothing guaranteed, their failures spelled their doom. Cust and Duke had once been promising players. Playing ten years mostly in the American League, Cust'...

Cutter Dykstra making Mike Rizzo look like a genius for Nyjer Morgan trade

Up to this point, Cutter Dykstra was probably best known by Washington Nationals fans for being the bag of baseballs Mike Rizzo got in return from the Brewers when he traded Nyjer Morgan last March. That and for being Lenny Dykstra's kid. In 94 games with high A Potomac last in 2011, he posted a forgettable .212/.265/.265, while splitting his time between OF, 3B, and 2B. ...

Astros Release Livan Hernandez, Braves Swoop In

In perhaps the fasteset set of transaction I’ve ever seen, the Astros announced that they were releasing Livan Hernandez at 12:07 pm eastern time, and then Jon Heyman reported that Livan was signing with the Braves at 2:02 pm eastern. Livan wasn’t even unemployed for two hours. Livan’s a pretty fascinating guy. While his xFIPs are crazy consistent over the last four years...
