Found April 27, 2012 on The Outside Corner:
The day is finally upon us. The Washington Nationals are calling up uber prospect Bryce Harper on Saturday. On Sat., the Nationals will place 3B Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-Day DL & recall OF Bryce Harper, who will make his MLB debut at Dodger Stadium — Nationals PR (@NationalsPR) April 27, 2012 This is huge news for multiple reasons. We'll start with the negative for Washington: Ryan Zimmerman being placed on the DL (again). Zimmerman only had a .669 OPS in 15 games this year while dealing with a shoulder injury, and hasn't played since last Friday against the Marlins. But the Harper news is incredibly huge for this franchise. Harper only had a .708 OPS in AAA Syracuse, and had just a .499 OPS against left-handed pitching. But his walk and strikeout rates were generally fine, and it just seemed to be an issue of Harper pressing too much. Now, he'll get his shot in the majors. I'd assume he'll depose the terrible Rick Ankiel/Roger Bernadina platoon in ce...

Bryce Harper’s first hit ruined by fans who mooned the camera

Bryce Harper may have the ball from his first career hit, but the video clip shown on TV is ruined. A couple of kids at Dodger Stadium for the Nats-Dodgers game on Saturday night spoiled Harper’s first hit by mooning the center field camera. Yup, two rascals with a well thought out plan dropped trou as the 3-2 pitch was coming from Chad Billingsley. Harper blasted the pitch for...

Harper ready to make big league debut

Bryce Harper's first day in the major leagues came with all the hype one would expect for the player dubbed ''Baseball's Chosen One'' when he was only 16 years old. Talking to a large crowd of reporters in the visitor's dugout at Dodger Stadium before the Washington Nationals played the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night, Harper expressed how excited...

Dodgers Fans Mooned Bryce Harper As He Got His First Major League Hit

Bryce Harper, the Washington Nationals rookie, got his first hit of his Major League Baseball career off of a Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher for a double. Some Dodgers fans decided to moon, not only their pitcher, but also Bryce Harper. Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to moon your own pitcher but the kids look pretty young. This may be the best rookie troll move of all time. We enhanced...

Nationals call up Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper, the kiss-blowing phenom, will finally be making  his Major League debut. After struggling in the minors to start of the season, the Nationals have decided that the sooner they bring him up the better. I don’t understand the timing of the move, because besides the fact that Harper was hitting .250 in the minors, the Nationals have been playing like the best team...

There Was a Full Moon When Bryce Harper Got His First MLB Hit

There has been much talk about Bryce Harper and his MLB debut this year. On Saturday night he did not disappoint his supporters and doubled and had a sacrifice fly in his Major League debut for Washington. Unfortunately some of the thunder was stolen by two other entities. The first is Matt Kemp who hit a walk-off homer in the 10th inning as the Dodgers rallied late for the win...

Nats' Harper doesn't disappoint in MLB debut

LOS ANGELES -- Sometimes, fairy-tale endings are just thatfairy tales. That was certainly the case in likely the most anticipated debut in Washington Nationals' history. Bryce Harper, who along with the L.A. Angels' Mike Trout is considered baseball's top young player, made his first start and the Nats other phenom, righthander Stephen Strasburg, was on the mound as...

Bryce Harper called up to Majors by Nats

Bryce Harper is coming to the show. The Nationals announced on Friday that heavily-hyped prospect is being called up to the Majors to replace Ryan Zimmerman who is going on the disabled list with an injured shoulder. Harper is only 19 years old and has less than 500 career minor league at-bats, but the former No. 1 overall pick may get his crack at big league pitching on Saturday...

Bryce Harper’s Major League Debut was Memorable

[Box Score] [WaPo] [Big League Stew] [DC Sports Blog] [Dodgers Now] I’m happy with what I saw of Bryce Harper’s big league debut. The only at-bat I missed last night was his first MLB hit, a rocket double off the base of the wall that would have been out of most parks. But I saw all I needed to see. The hustle, the look, the grey bat. The incredible bat speed. The rifleman throw...

MLB already edited out the moon behind Bryce Harper's first MLB hit

Kemp's walk-off HR spoils Harper debut

Matt Kemp homered leading off the 10th inning, spoiling Bryce Harper's major league debut and lifting the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night. Harper hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth and Wilson Ramos added a run-scoring single before Washington's bullpen wasted a 3-1 lead in the bottom half. Kemp drove...

Trout & Harper Arrive!

Mike Trout has made his season debut and Bryce Harper will soon make his big league debut. It is probably too much to handle at once, but we don't have much choice. Let's look at the decision making that went into both and whether or not they will be here to stay.Trout hit leadoff today. The Angels as a team had a .195 average and .250 OBP out of their leadoff hitter up until...

Video: Matt Kemp’s walk-off home run against Washington Nationals

Coming into last night’s game at Dodger Stadium much of the attention was on 19 year-old phenom Bryce Harper, who was making his debut for the Washington Nationals in MLB’s most hyped entrance since Stephen Strasburg came onto the scene June 8, 2010. Harper’s first major league hit came on a double to [...]

Dugout Digest - the phenoms have arrived

Going into Saturday's game, eyes around baseball were focued on two players: Bryce Harper of the Nationals, and Mike Trout of the Angels. This was Harper's first action in the show, but Trout had received a brief callup last year for the Angels. Their expectations were not necessarily met. Playing left field and batting seventh, Harper went 1/3 with a double and a sac fly...

Zimmerman will see specialist about shoulder

The Washington Nationals have played all season without cleanup hitter Michael Morse. Now their No. 3 hitter, Ryan Zimmerman, might join Morse on the disabled list. Zimmerman is scheduled to have his sore right shoulder examined Friday in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, and he probably will receive an injection. Depending upon ElAttrache's verdict, the Nationals could put...
