An official announcement is not expected until Thursday but both Bill Ladson of mlb.com and Ben Goessling of masnsports.com are reporting that a 2 year deal has been finalized.
Washington has been stressing the fact that they need to improve defensively which they have done by signing LaRoche to replace Dunn at first base. LaRoche is an above average fielder and a consistent hitter have 25 home runs in each of the last 3 seasons and has a .271 lifetime batting average.
Right now the terms have not been released but Ben Goessling is reporting that it will be somewhere in the ballpark of $16 million over 2 seasons.
Now that a first baseman has finally been signed the Nats team is starting to become clearer as to who will be playing where and this is a good signing for the Nats. LaRoche is a nice consistent hitter, an above average glove and at only 31 years old there should not be any real decline in play due to age. Plus at two years it allows time for either Marrero or Moore to develop in to the fist baseman of the future for the Nats.
