Nightly Stars: Jordan Zimmerman (AAA), Adrian Alaniz (A), and Adrian Sanchez (A)
Syracuse Chiefs (AAA) had a double header last night. In Game One, Jordan Zimmerman pitched his first AAA game since returning from Tommy John surgery and put up an impressive start in the Chiefs 1-0 win. Zimmerman tossed 4 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 1 batter. Jason Bergmann (5-3) earned the win pitching 1 scoreless inning. Adam Carr picked up his third save and lowered his AAA ERA to 0.93. Overall on the season, Carr is 6-1 with 8 saves and a combined 2.70 ERA. He has 57 strike outs in 60 innings. Carr is a highly touted relief prospect for the Nationals. Leonard Davis provided the only punch for the Chiefs, hitting his 14th AAA home run, 19th overall. In Game Two, Chiefs fell 6-3., Andrew Kown (1-3) allowed 7 hits and 4 runs over 2.1 innings. Danny Espinosa, Jason Botts, and Peter Orr each had 2 hits. Espinosa is hitting .316 since his promotion to AA 5 games ago. Orr raised his batting average to .263 after hovering most of the season below .240. Orr is hitting .424 over his last 10 games.
Harrisburg Senators and starter Brad Peacock got battered 7-1. Peacock dropped to 1-1 hitting hammered for 8 hits and 7 runs over 2.1 innings. Edgar Baez hit his 3rd home run to provide the only offense for the Senators.
Potomac Nationals won 5-2. Adrian Alaniz continues to impress, throwing 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 8 batters. Overall, Alaniz is 6-3 with a 2.44 ERA and has recorded 83 strikeouts in 96 innings. AJ Morris (4-2) picked up the win throwing a hitless and scoreless 1.2 innings. Patrick McCoy picked up his 2nd save. Daniel Lyons, Michael Burgess, Chris Curren., and Jose Lozado each had two hits. Bill Rhinehart hit his 12th home run for the Nationals.
Hagerstown Suns (A) lost 8-2. Billy Ott (1-1), in his second start fro the Suns, took the loss, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs over 3 innings. Josh Smoker, after struggling in the starting role, threw 2 scoreless innings of relief and struck out 4 batters. His ERA is 7.22. Rick Hague went 2 for 5 and is hitting .277. 19 year old Adrian Sanchez continue to sizzle, going 3 for 5, and raising his Hagerstown batting average to .448, after hitting .367 in the Gulf Coast League. Impressive kid. Eury Perez went 2-4 and scored twice. He raised his batting average to .269.
Vermont Lake Monsters lost 4-1. Talk about a bad outing. Chad Jenkins allowed 2 hits, 4 walks, and 4 runs after being pulled after .1 inning. Cameron Selik threw 4 scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 3. Kevin Cahill threw 3 scoreless innings of relief, lowering his ERA to 1.62. Chad Mozingo, Blake Kelso, and Ronnie Labrie each had 2 hits. Kelso raised his average to .322.
