TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs have announced their new slogan and marketing messages for 2013. The Cubs will use "Committed" for the season and will have marketing campaigns built around this idea and slogans such as "Not if. When" and "Nothing worth having ever comes easy." Committed? If Chicago Cubs fans ever wondered if they were insane for rooting for a team that hasn't won a title in over 100 years, the Cubs went ahead and confirmed the notion with their new slogan. Apparently, we're not the only ones that think the choice was a bit misguided.  There's nothing wrong with centering your marketing around your fans' passion for the game and team, but surely someone must have realized that using a word that also refers to someone being sent to a mental institution probably wasn't the best idea for this specific organization. No one thought "Dedicated" might work better? (H/T Chicago Tribune)

30-1 MLB countdown previews: #24 Cubs

The Chicago Cubs had a difficult season under new manager Dale Sveum, new GM Jed Hoyer and President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein. In my opinion, this was an example of many things going wrong, led by the injuries to RHP Matt Garza and trades of RHP Ryan Dempster, LHP Paul Maholm and others. I like some of the moves they made this off season, mainly the signings of Edwin Jackson...

Chicago Cubs ramblings and honoring Harry Caray

“Hello again, everybody.” Those three words, while probably not as often said as, “I’ll have another,” were always on the tip of Harry Caray tongue.  A week after what would have been the amazing broadcaster’s 99th birthday, I wanted to lead this edition of Ramblings with a shout-out to the man that made me fall in love with baseball. (Editor’s note: this is by TSB...

Hairston homers before Cubs and Reds rained out

Scott Hairston homered for the Chicago Cubs before their game against a split squad of Cincinnati Reds was rained out in the second inning with the score 1-all Friday night. Hairston homered in the first off Tony Cingrani. Neftali Soto put the Reds ahead with a sacrifice fly. The game was stopped after a 33-minute rain delay. After Hairston homered, Alfonso Soriano doubled and...

Chicago Cubs offering special baseball card promotions this season

This season, the Chicago Cubs are giving their fans an 82-card Topps Archives set, featuring current and former Cubs players on classic Topps card designs. Chicago Cubs season ticket holders will receive the cards as part of their season ticket package. Their set will be a little more bougy, as (well, season ticket holders are a little more bougy to begin with) as their set will...

Wrigley is Magic

I find myself waffling on this subject quite a bit, because as all Cubs fans do, I just want the best for the Cubs.  I want them to win, and to do that I want them to be able to make truckloads of money.  There are many obstacles preventing the Cubs from making as much money as they should given the brand name recognition, the history (most of it crap, but you know, we’re committed...

Dale Sveum tries to compliment someone

He's [Brian Bogusevic] been the Joe Mather of camp so far – Dale Sveum I'm pretty sure Dale Sveum meant this as a compliment, but saying someone is the Joe Mather of anything is kind of the opposite. I'll just repost what I already did about Mather. Joe Mather was the worst player in baseball last year. Baseball Reference only thought he was the 5th worst player...
