I stared in excitement and jubilation at the text message I had just received (from ESPN.com), which said that Angel Pagan had just hit a grand slam!
Finally, the Mets were scoring some runs, and they were going to surely win tonight, barring another bullpen collapse that was all too common last year.
However, thanks to Frankie Rodriguez, all is well in the minds of Mets fans and the Mets won the game 9-6.
But afterwards, I looked back at the text, and as I looked more closely it says "Angel Pagan hits a home run. Alex Cora, Omir Santos, and Angel Berroa scored on the play."
This is probably the last possible group that you would assume would be part of a grand slam.
Let's go all the way back, to the beginning of the season.
Omir Santos was the starting catcher at AAA, Alex Cora was a backup for Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo, Angel Berroa was with the AAA team for the Yankees (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees), and Angel Pagan, the star of the show, was on the DL. ...
