Three cities and nine games later, the New York Yankees end their road trip 5-4.
Starting out the road trip in Kansas City, the Yankees lost two out of three games. Then a confidence-boosting sweep in Seattle against the Mariners left the team with hopeful optimism.

Then the Yankees continued its four game winning streak, taking the first game against the Oakland Athletics, 7-0. It was a surprising and much needed win for the Yankees, as the Athletics are currently number one in its division.
David Phelps pitched a dominant six innings on Friday night, only allowing the Athletics two hits. This came as a surprise performance since Phelps had previously lost four straight starts and procured a 6.57 ERA during that time. His performance during this game seemed like a fluke, but lets not question it.
The confidence of the Yankees slowly diminished as Saturday and Sunday’s games both ended with a bitter loss.
Saturday night’s game wasn’t too bad, just a bit hectic what with a 38 minute delay in the fourth inning due to a malfunction to the outfield lights in the stadium. The Yankees starting pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda, looked a bit off before and after the delay and was taken out during the fifth. Then 30 minutes before the game, Mark Teixeira was scratched from the lineup due to a back spasm and Brian McCann once again took his place at first base. With the distractions surrounding this game, the Yankees lost 5-1.
Sunday’s game was the real heartbreaker. The Yankees lost 10-5 with a below average performance from SP Vidal Nuno. He lost for the first time in his seven road starts. During this game he allowed eight runs in three innings… ouch. Two of those included a pair of three- run home runs by Athletics’ Derek Norris and CoCo Crisp.
Nuno’s relief, Jose Ramirez, was just as ineffective. He even clunked Athletics’ Craig Gentry in the helmet with a breaking ball to force in a run.
New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran
Then there was Carlos Beltran. He was doing so well… but made an embarrassing play in the eighth inning by mistakenly thinking there were already two outs instead of one.
After hitting a line drive that got McCann out, Beltran jogged toward the first base dugout, which the umpire ruled as an out for abandoning the base. It was an honest mistake; embarrassing, yes, but it happens. And lucky for him, the Yankees were already down 10-3, and that point so it wasn’t so much a costly mistake as it was embarrassing. Regardless, he still had a solid game, hitting the ball each time he got on plate.
“I think if you were to say before you start a road trip that you’re going to go to the West Coast and you’re going to end up with a positive road trip, you’d say, ‘All right,’” manager Joe Girardi said. “But when we were 5-2 and had a chance to have a really good road trip, it kind of stings a little bit.”

As well as John Ryan Murphy has played since being called up, the Yankees had to make to right move today. Francisco Cervelli was activated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned Murphy back to Triple-A Scranton, where he will be the everyday catcher for the RailRiders and continue to work. Cervelli had been getting some good work in at first base while on assignment...
When I tuned in, the score was 10-0. Ten to nuthin. I thought, "Well, this must be a typographical error by the YES studio technicians. This will be a rib-tickling moment when they discover it." Then reality - as it sometimes is known to do - became apparent.I said, "OK, fine. The sun is shining, there's beer in the cooler, and I do not have to watch." And...
Office Space is a timeless classic. If you haven’t seen Jennifer Aniston working as a waitress at Tchotchke’s, you haven’t lived. And one particular collegiate summer baseball team, the Northwoods League’s Madison Mallards, held “Office Space Night” for their game against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Richard Riehle, who played Tom in the movie, was in attendance for the event...
New York Yankees 5 — Oakland Athletics 10
Vidal Nuno struggled right from the beginning of the game.
After a quick first inning on the offense, Vidal Nuno started the game and it was bad right away. Coco Crisp started the game with a single to center field. Craig Gentry would hit a single too but Yoenis Cespedes would strike out. The one positive would be overshadowed by a big...
A freshman at Trinity College writes a letter to her dad - a truly great man, and an effective shaper of young minds.Best of all, you have not, as you claim, forced preferences for any sports team on me. The Yankees are finally home after a long road trip, and will now face the first place Toronto Blue Jays. The homestand marks the start of 15 straight games against AL East opponents, which sees the Yankees heading north of the border next week for a quick rematch with the Jays before coming home again. Let’s be honest, this season scoring five runs or more for the New York Yankees (35-33) is an infrequent occurrence.
This makes the days when the Bronx Bombers bats actually manage to go from cold to warm necessary to win.
That is why yesterday’s 10-5 loss of the rubber game to the Oakland Athletics...

Series against the New York Yankees have always been a big draw at the Coliseum, often attracting sell-out crowds with mixed allegiances — it just goes with being the most recognizable global brand in baseball I suppose, the fans follow.
This offseason, on February 12 to be exact, the Yankee’s annual trip to the Oakland Coliseum, or O.co as it is now known, took on a bit more...
The just-completed road trip was a tough one for the New York Yankees. Due to a rain out, the Yankees only played nine, finishing 5-4. They played their best games in the middle of the trip, when they swept the Seattle Mariners. Otherwise, they were at the mercy of the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics. All things considered, even if they lose the make-up game to the...

Toronto Blue Jays 1 — New York Yankees 3
Masahiro Tanaka continues to be one of the best pitchers in the game.
In the first start for Masahiro Tanaka, he faced the Toronto Blue Jays. The first major league start for Tanaka started the worst way a pitcher could want it, a leadoff home run. Tonight was the second time he faced an opponent for the second...
The decades-old cement block known as O.co Coliseum has a long history of malfunctions and the cracks are beginning to show in more ways than one. An overflowing sewage system last year and early this year have been just some of the more serious issues. On Saturday night, a bank of lights in left field went out at the temperamental ballpark, delaying the A's game against the...
The Toronto Blue Jays jumped out to first in the AL East behind an explosive offense. They have the second best record in the American League at 41-30, and are the only team in the AL East with a positive run differential.
