New York Yankees’ Derek Jeter will miss the first half of the season due to a crack on the ankle injury that he sustained during last year’s playoffs. The Captain was scheduled to return to the Yankees in May before the major setback. Derek Jeter had CT scan that revealed small crack in area of previous injury, will not return until sometime after All-Star break. — MLB (@MLB) April 18, 2013 Brian Cashman says Derek Jeter will be out until after the All-Star break. He has a small crack in the area of his previous ankle injury. — Alanna Rizzo (@alannarizzo) April 18, 2013 Jeter hasn't played since March 23 during a spring training game. Jeter had hoped to return at the start of the season. The Yankees are already missing Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez. Despite the long injury list, the Yankees are still above .500 in the AL East. In Jeter's absence, the Yankees have played Eduardo Nunez and Jayson Nix at shortstop although neither has excelled. Nix has not proven to a vital candidate as a replacement for Derek Jeter,, he has been hitting .185 with one HR and four RBIs. Nunez has been hitting .189 with no HR and only two RBI. The platoon will have to hold down the fort until May, as many Yankee players are expected to return from their injuries.
