Jeter hasn't played since March 23 during a spring training game. Jeter had
hoped to return at the start of the season. The Yankees are already missing
Curtis Granderson, Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez. Despite the long injury
list, the Yankees are still above .500 in the AL East.
In Jeter's absence, the Yankees have played Eduardo Nunez and Jayson Nix at
shortstop although neither has excelled. Nix has not proven to a vital candidate as a replacement for Derek Jeter,, he has been hitting .185 with one HR and four RBIs. Nunez has been hitting .189 with no HR and only two RBI. The platoon will have to hold down the fort until May, as many Yankee players are expected to return from their injuries.
