In a frantic move to fill the void for an injured 3B Alex Rodriguez and the recently hurt 1B Mark Teixeira, the New York Yankees traded reliever Chad Qualls for General Manager of the New York Yankees Brian Cashman infielder Casey McGehee from the Pittsburgh Pirates as confirmed via tweet from NY Post’s Joel Sherman. A-rod is out till mid-September with a broken hand, and Tex is suffering from a swollen wrist and the hope is that the cortisone shot he received yesterday will be enough for him to return on Friday. McGehee was not the Yankees first choice was Padres Chase Headley but he drew a lot of interest from other teams so the price would have been high. And with the Yankees depleted farm system and attempt to cut, or at least not add to payroll, Headley was out of reach. With the Pirates acquiring Marlins 1B Gaby Sanchez in the fire sale down in Miami made McGehee redundant, so dumping him cheaply was a no-brainer. And Qualls was moments from being released by the Yankees to ma...

McGehee Trade: By The Numbers

McGehee, 29, fills the roll of a back-up infielder that can play both first and third base. McGehee comes in at the perfect time Alex...

Traded to Yankees, McGehee shaves off beard

Traded to the Yankees, Casey McGehee decided to shave his beard in private. No televised grooming, like Jose Reyes had when his dreadlocks were shorn on the MLB Network last winter. ''Reyes might be able to pull it off. I don't think they want to watch a chubby white guy shave his beard off,'' McGehee said Wednesday after reporting to New York. The 29-year-old...

New York Yankees acquire Casey McGehee at deadline

This isn’t exactly what the Yankees wanted. But they’ll take it. Has the Alex Rodriguez Signing Been Good or Bad for the Yankees?

In December 2007, the Yankees pulled off a very Yankee-like deal, signing superstar third baseman Alex Rodriguez to a 10-year, $275 million deal. A-Rod was probably the best hitter in baseball at the time, as he had been since coming into his own with the Seattle Mariners in 1996. With Rodriguez now banged up and not producing nearly as much for the 2nd straight year, it’s time...

A-Rod shows true colors by sporting Yankees' blue and white cast

Alex Rodriguez may not be in the Yankees lineup for the next month-and-a-half, but that didn't stop the third baseman from donning the Bronx Bombers blue and white colors. A-Rod was keeping it real by wearing a blue and white cast over the fractured left hand he suffered last week against the Seattle Mariners while hitting the gym and dining out with his girlfriend Torrie Wilson...

John Sterling's controversial Ichiro home run nickname

New York Yankees fans are used to the odd and sometimes disturbing nicknames Yankees' radio announcer John Sterling comes up with for the home town players.  This is the guy who brought you home run calls like "It's a A-Bomb for A-Rod" for an Alex Rodriguez dinger, "That's a Tex Message" every time Mark Teixeira goes long and calls Curtis Granderson...

Angels' Morales homers from both sides of plate in same inning

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Kendrys Morales was just looking to break out of a slump when he made some history. The six-RBI inning is a club record, one short of the American...
