Joe Girardi, the current Yankees' manager (Photo credit: Wikipedia) With the devastating loss of Mariano Rivera now sinking in, which not only physically handicaps the Yankees but also mentally, skipper Joe Girardi’s job just got much harder. The good ‘old comfort of the ninth inning now feels more like a Sergio Mitre start, and no one knows this better than pitcher David Robertson. In time, everyone figured Robertson to be Mo’s successor, but not now and not like this. When you consider all the Yankees recent history of screwing up young pitchers by pushing them too hard into uncomfortable roles, it makes you stop and think again. Why the hell would the Yankees put all the weight on Robertson to fill Mo’s shoes when the timing isn’t right? Robertson was invaluable to the Yankees last, and he got an All-Star nod to prove it. Also his 1.08 ERA, one homer, and eight earned runs in over 66 innings pitched made Robertson the best reliever in the Bigs. Just think about it…. Roberts...

Ninth inning no longer open and close

For a moment it looked like David Robertson was about to cry, although it was probably the shimmer of the TV lights. Still, it didn't require any forensics to realize Robertson had just been exposed to the brave, new world without Mariano Rivera and was in a state of shock. Over and over, the Yankees' new closer kept re-living the three-run HR he'd surrendered to Matt...

Mariano Rivera song: Don't stop relievin'

Mariano Rivera is the greatest relief pitcher of all time and New York Yankees fans are not ready to give up on him yet. The guys over at the NOC love them some song parodies and what better band to parody than the great Journey. Enjoy this plea to Mariano Rivera called “Don’t Stop Relievin”. Come on Rivera, tis but a scratch… Mariano Rivera Don’t Stop Relievin...

Mariano Rivera’s New Theme Song (Video)

There’s a new theme song in New York City. “Don’t Stop Relievin’” is the new craze in the campaign for Mariano Rivera’s return. It is well documented that the greatest reliever in MLB history and soon-to-be Hall of Famer, Mariano Rivera, was recently injured during batting practice. With the announcement that he is out for the season, came cries of “please come back...

Mariano Rivera's injury inspires a song parody (Video)

Network of Champions has come up with a song parody to cover the topic of Mariano Rivera's recent season-ending injury. Borrowing the melody from Journey's classic hit "Don't Stop Believing", the new lyrics use inspiration from Rivera's promise to return next season. The end result is "Don't Stop Relievin'". Holdout Sports has a...

Via The Big LeadThe Mariano Rivera song made it’s debut on YouTube and was a total sensation. They took the tune from “Don’t stop believing” and set it to a Mariano Rivera theme. A New York Yankees fan decided to record and lip-sync this and we thank him for it. It is amazing.

Robertson's route to Yanks began with Steinbrenner

If not for a letter to George Steinbrenner a dozen years ago, David Robertson might never have become the New York Yankees' closer. The story goes like this. The baseball coach at Indiana's Culver Academy wrote a letter to the Yankees' owner in July 2000, asking Steinbrenner to sign an infielder from his alma mater who had been overlooked in baseball's amateur draft...

David Robertson, Rafael Dolis Good Closer Pickups for Fantasy Baseball Team (Video)

There's been a rash of injuries to some star fantasy players this year, and many of those injuries occurred to closers. 2012 Waiver Wire – Week 6

Last week I wrote about David Robertson taking over as closer for the New York Yankees and being the guy to own based on his stuff. Unfortunately, that stuff does not always necessarily translate once the pressure of the ninth inning is added to the mix. He picked up a save Tuesday night despite allowing three base runners in an inning of work and tonight he blew a save against...
