With the unreal list of injured outfielders, the Sox went out and acquired utility outfielder Eric Patterson last week. They traded minor-league lefty Fabian Williamson to the Oakland Athletics last week for Patterson in order to add depth at the AAA and major league level in the outfield position. According Peter Abraham of Boston.com, Terry Francona said that Patterson will make his Red Sox debut tonight in left field, giving Daniel Nava a well deserved night off. Patterson is 25 years old and played college ball at Georgia Tech. Patterson has played in 89 major league games with the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics, hitting .233 with 2 home runs and 26 rbis.
