The Mets have officially announced the signing of Miguel Batista, and have assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo. Batista was released by the Cardinals in June, as he went 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA in 26 appearances and one start, walking 19 batters and allowing 27 hits in 29 1/3 innings this season.Analysis: Although this signing seems minute on the surface, it might be more important than most people think. Miguel Batista has been solid over the course of his career as a starter, middle reliever, and even a closer for a short while. This is pure speculation, however, I would not be surprised if this move might be a pre-cursor to a bigger corresponding move. Could this possibly be someone who fills the void left by Bobby Parnell when he assumes the closer's role when Francisco Rodriguez is traded? I may not be right, but it makes me wonder.
