The Arizona Diamondbacks just acquired shortstop prospect Nick Ahmed on Friday, in a deal that sent Justin Upton to Atlanta. And, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the D-Backs already are prepared to ship Ahmed to the Detroit Tigers for Rick Porcello.

The 22-year-old Ahmed hit .269 with a .337 OBP and 40 steals in High-A ball last season. He also made 26 errors while playing 130 games at shortstop.
The Tigers still sound as if they’ll be content to let Porcello and Drew Smyly duke it out for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation this spring. If neither player is moved, the runner-up in that race would almost certainly take over as the team’s long reliever.
