It appears Nick Johnson’s lower back stiffness, which was reportedly brought on by participating in extra batting practice, will keep him sidelined until Tuesday (the Yankees have an off-day tomorrow). Johnson was expected to play today, however, it appears the Yankees are being cautious with him, as that is the safest strategy given his well-documented inclination for injuries. The lineup for today could be pretty interesting with Johnson’s absence and with Scott Kazmir, a left-hander, on the mound.
