PLAYERS: Nick Swisher
TEAMS: New York Yankees
Nick Swisher has declined the Yankees' $13.3 million qualifying offer and will test free agency. According to ESPN, Swisher's agent, Dan Lozano, confirmed Friday through email. The outspoken and likable Swisher was a fan favorite in the Bronx but his struggles at the plate in postseason are hard to overlook. Last season, Swisher batted .272 with 24 HR and 93 RBI. But hit only .167 with 0HR and 2RBI in eight games. Leaving the outfielder with .169 avg in 154 postseason at-bats. This leaves two more qualifying offers on the table with starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda and closer Rafael Soriano still to decide. The likelihood of them accepting are far-fetched. Leaving Cashman with a lot of work to do.
1 Comment:
  • Swisher is worth a second look. Kuroda is too old, Soriano is a risk but with Mo's future cloudy at best he's proven he can close effectively. He's no Rivera but then again who is. Yankees have been spoiled by what I call generational players. That is, a few of them come along once a generation then you have a big gap. Rivera and Jeter fit that description and, barring a miracle, the Yankees will suffer at shortstop and closer for awhile once those 2 are retired.....

Yankees’ Cashman talking to Zack Greinke’s agent

After getting traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Los Angeles Angels last season, Zack Greinke posted a 6-2 record with a 3.53 era.  Solid number for a backend rotation starter, however, he struggled at times with his command and had trouble keeping the ball low in the strike zone, which led him to give up 11 home runs in less than half a season.
