TEAMS: Washington Nationals
This is the fourth post in a series that has looked at the National League East, a division that has had some dynamic movement during this off season. The Braves were covered in the second post and it was seen that they have the potential to win 95 games if everything goes perfectly. The third post covered the Marlins, who were shown to be vastly improved and could be in a position to shake up the division. Today's installment looks at the Washington Nationals. The Nationals seemed to be in on every free agent mentioned during the off season. While the team didn't get Fielder or Reyes, they did acquire two starting pitchers. Will that be enough to put them in contention? The Nationals won 80 games last season. Nationals 5x5 2012 Prospect Rankings
Four of the Nationals top five prospects were selected in last June's amateur draft. That's what happens when three top-10 prospects are traded to acquire the services of Gio Gonzalez. Of course, it helps that the four prospects cracking the top five have a lot of talent. Topping the prospect list is a guy you might have heard of, and he alone makes this list pretty special...

Edwin Jackson should know better than to try to buy printer ink on a Friday night.
And so, Edwin Jackson (@ej36), the newest member of Scott Boras Presents: The Washington Nationals took to Twitter Friday night after the car he was in nearly got smashed by a guy who ran a red light. Jackson was simply out trying to buy some printer ink without any chaos, folks:
Be safe!

Can Gio Gonzalez Be Successful Outside Of The Coliseum?
On a four hour train ride from New York City back home to D.C. I had following a business trip this week, I listened to a lot of sports talk radio. At one point, on a show which I unfortunately do not know the name of, one of the hosts was previewing the N.L. East and pointed out that Gio Gonzalez has a career 4.32 ERA outside of the Oakland Coliseum, and wondered out loud why no...
ESPN's Keith Law Ranks Nats Farm System No. 21 Overall
While the Nationals reveled in the fact that Baseball America ranked their farm system as No. 1 in Major League Baseball prior to the Gio Gonzalez trade, ESPN's prospect wiz Keith Law has ranked their system as the 21st best in baseball in its current form. Here is what Law had to say:
"This was potentially a top-10 system before the Gio Gonzalez trade, no worse than top...
MMO Fair Or Foul: Was F-Mart The LH Bat We Needed?
Soon after the Nationals snatched up left-handed hitting outfielder Rick Ankiel, the Mets pulled the plug on their quest to land a left-handed bat for the team.
Ankiel had been high on their list and some reports even circulated that Sandy Alderson may have offered the one-time pitching phenom a minor league deal. Anyway, that was then and this now, and it’s looking more and...
