Buck and Byrd get it done for Mets, bullpen doesn’t, offense explodes

John Buck and Marlon Byrd both had years to forget in 2012. Given their age – and a cynic might note, the fact that they both wound up on the Mets – things did not figure to improve all that much in 2013. After all, it’s hard to play baseball with a giant fork sticking out of your back. But a funny thing happened as both players turned in very impressive Grapefruit League...

Harvey-Mania Is Taking The Citi By Storm!

What a game by Matt Harvey last night, and if you missed our interview with him on Monday, you should check it out. As we stated last night, this is exactly what aces are supposed to do. The young right-hander went 7.0 innings and surrendered one hit last night, tied for the fewest he’s allowed in a single game in his career. He also went 7.0 innings and allowed one hit on September...

Mets Minors: Dropped Popup Opens Door for B-Mets 2-1 Victory

The Binghamton Mets scored the game-winning run without the aid of a hit and the bullpen provided four shutout innings of relief in a 2-1 victory over the Akron Aeros Friday night at Canal Park. With the game tied and the bases loaded on two walks and a hit batsman in the top of the seventh, Wilfredo Tovar lifted a weak popup behind first base. Jose Ramirez raced over from second...

Mets Minors: Looks Like Gorski Will Replace Laffey At Triple-A

With Aaron Laffey officially named the starter on Sunday, when the Mets complete their series against the Miami Marlins, the front office have a corresponding move to make. It looks like the beneficiary will be Darin Gorski who was initially assigned to Double-A Binghamton. The left-hander, who I had pegged for Vegas all along, had a solid season for Bingo in 2012, making 24 starts...
