There is some talk of eric young jr. With the mets. But to clarify, juston turners name hasn't yet come up December 20, 2011 1:21 pm via Mobile WebReplyRetweetFavorite @JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman

Heyman is one of the most and most reliable sources when it comes to rumors and trades.  His acknowledgement of the Mets interest in Rockies infielder Eric Young Jr. has me a little nervous.  Young Jr. is a speedster, no doubt, but I’m not sure I’m all that interested in the rest of his game.

He plays second base, which is a position we have to fill if it does not end ultimately being held down by Murphy.  His numbers last season are not very impressive to say the least. Over three seasons with Colorado, spanning 427 AB’s he is hitting just .247.  If he does not hit for a high average, he does not offer much offensively other than speed.  He has no power to speak of with just 4 doubles, 1 homer and 3 triples in his career.

Stolen bases is what he is best at, and his still relatively young and could come around with the bat. Last season in 31 attempts he was successful 27 times.  Over his brief professional career he has proven he is a successful base stealer having stolen 48 out of 62 attempts.

I know that Mets are in the market for a lead off hitter with potential, but I just don’t see Young Jr. as the guy.  I definitely would not want to part with someone valuable to attain him, however if we can get him cheap I’d take a shot.

  • Hey Mets fans, anytime that O'Dowd gives up on a 2nd baseman has usually meant that the next team gets a very professional, solid player as their reward.
