Posted in MetsBlogIn yesterday’s 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks, Daniel Murphy went 2 for 5 with two RBI, one of which gave the Mets the lead in the sixth inning. He has appeared in four straight games and has started the last two, going 6 for 14 with 4 RBI over that span. The kid can hit. Period. He may never be a Jeff Kent, but he is a major league hitter. He has a great swing, makes consistent solid contact, and spreads the ball all over the field. He made a big error yesterday which ultimately cost Dillon Gee, but he made up for it offensively. All in all, he really hasn’t looked that bad at second base so far this year. He’s turned a couple of double plays with no apparent problems, and made the routine plays as well. He has most definitely come a long way there since the start of Spring Training.
