-The Pirates activated starting pitcher Ross Ohlendorf from the 15-day disabled list today, which was expected since Ohlendorf starts tonight against the Reds. To make room on the active roster, the Pirates designated reliever Brian Bass for assignment. Bass is out of options, which is why he couldn't be sent down. The Pirates will have ten days to waive, trade, or release Bass. Should he clear waivers, he would have to consent to an assignment to Indianapolis, since he's already been outrighted once in his career.

The first two players are Dominican prospects from the Dominican Prospects League, according to the DPL site. Their names are Isaac Sanchez and Miguel DeAza. The Pirates also signed Wilson Lee, a left handed pitcher from Australia, according to NT News.com.au. Lee will spend a few weeks in extended Spring Training before returning to Australia to play in the MLB's Australian Academy Program.

Isaac Sanchez, 17, is a RHP with an athletic 6'2" 180lb frame and clean arm action. His #1 pitch is a barry-zito-like curveball while his fastball works from 89-92 mph. Sanchez exhibits strong control of all pitches (FB, CB, and CH) and projects as an innings eating starting pitcher.
Miguel DeAza, 17, is a left-handed outfielder who demonstrates 5-tool potential. Although packaged into a smaller athletic body (5'11"), DeAza impresses with his above average tools. He runs 6.5-6.6. in the 60 yard dash, demonstrates a 60 arm from the outfield and makes consistent solid contact on the ball and has an enhanced feel for getting the barrel of the bat to the ball.The article also says that they signed Willy Garcia, although the Pirates haven't confirmed this. The Dominican Summer League season starts on May 29th, so we will see which of these signings is legit at that point.
