Fox Sports Southwest:
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels will head to Nashville for next week's Winter Meetings with nothing resolved concerning the future of Josh Hamilton.
That's just the way Daniels expected it to be.
"I've maintained contact with (agent) Mike Moye," Daniels said. "The interest has been consistent. The process that we agreed to back in the spring when we tabled negotiations at that point was that Josh was going to test the market and once he had a sense of that, would circle back with us. I think he's still in that process."
Daniels didn't sound concerned about that either. He said the Rangers are still sorting through some of their options too.
While there have been some moves made around baseball and a couple of minor moves by the Rangers, the club has yet to make a big splash this offseason like it did two years ago signing Adrian Beltre and last year with the signing of Yu Darvish.
Daniels maintained that the club will not wait o...
BEST OF MAXIM
The Texas Rangers have decided not to offer a contract to catcher Geovany Soto for the 2013 season.
The Rangers had until 11 p.m. to make a decision, and opted to non-tender Soto as well as infielder Brandon Snyder and right-hander Jake Brigham.
The club still has interest in Soto, just not at the price it would have cost them. Soto, who was eligible for arbitration, made 4.2...
The first thing most baseball fans want from Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan is pitching advice.
A close second may be recipes on the best ways to cook beef, of which Ryan is reportedly a master.
Salivating baseball fans will get their wish in 2014, as Ryan is set to release a cookbook with his finest beef recipes, according to a press release from publisher Little, Brown and Company.
Mike Napoli frightens me.
Everything about him frightens me. When he comes up to bat against the Red Sox, I’m always frightened that he’s going to hit a ball into the last row of the upper deck and then throw his wad of chewing tobacco at the pitcher. I’m frightened when he makes eye contact with the camera. If I saw him in the streets, I’d turn and run the opposite way...
WHERE'S THE BEEF?
The Hall of Fame pitcher-turned-Texas Rangers CEO and President reportedly is working on a book of recipes, fittingly entitled The Nolan Ryan Beef Cookbook.
One prominent agent said the Philadelphia Phillies could “surprise
everyone” and sign free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton this offseason, reports
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.
"Watch out for #phillies to surprise everyone and sign Hamilton,'' said one prominent agent. A scout told me the same thing.

The Texas Rangers added another arm for spring training by acquiring right-hander Cory Burns from San Diego for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Burns, who was designated for assignment by the Padres last week, made his major-league debut with San Diego by pitching in 17 games last season. He allowed 11 runs in 18 innings. He spent most of the season in Triple...
The Texas Rangers have acquired right-hander Cory Burns from San Diego in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Texas announced the deal Wednesday, eight days after the Padres designated Burns for assignment.
Burns made his major league debut, allowing 11 runs over 18 innings in 17 relief appearances for the Padres. He was 1-2 with three saves and a 3...
Tigres del Licey right fielder Engel Beltre broke out of his slump on Monday by clubbing a two-run home run, his first of the Dominican Winter League campaign. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.
Both Ryan Dempster and Scott Feldman battled injuries in 2012, but that has not deterred the Kansas City Royals one bit. The Royals were previously interested in signing Dempster, but now they have apparently turned their focus to Feldman. Neither pitcher suffered severe injury in 2012, but they both missed time.
Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star says the Royals, who have...
The baseball offseason is entering its second month, and so far the biggest story has been the Miami Marlins' salary dump.
That's about to change.
The annual winter meetings begin Monday at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn., the ideal site for an event headlined by free agents Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton.
The elaborate Opryland...
Christmas time comes but once a year and the only thing hotter than the chestnuts roasting or hot chocolate is the MLB’s hot stove.
The Red Sox are coming off a tough season in 2012 with a last-place finish in the American League East and 93 losses making it a rather forgettable summer. But with the offseason comes new life and a few big-name free agents could change the tune of...
(see what I did there? Tres? You can call me the blog post title Expert, if you’d like)
It’s been a while, so let’s get caught up on Free Agent news around the club. There hasn’t been much movement around Detroit, but some interesting things nonetheless.
I am fascinated by the Josh Hamilton situation. Living in Dallas, I can tell you that the club’s attitude towards him...
The clacking you hear is the sound of dominoes falling throughout the major leagues.
Wednesday, B.J. Upton agreed to a five-year, $75.25 million contract with the Atlanta Braves.
Thursday, the Washington Nationals acquired center fielder Denard Span from the Minnesota Twins for pitching prospect Alex Meyer.
A quick assessment of what the moves mean for other players in the Hot Stove...
With the Mets not in on any free agents in the range of Michael Bourn to Josh Hamilton, and with the only other way to acquire decent players in the off-season seemingly being off limits, then one would wonder what the point is of even showing up at the winter meetings next week. Hell, hotel rooms cost money. Room service costs money The candy used to lure other GM's to your...

Bennett spent the last eight years with the Houston Astros, including the last two years as their Director of Professional Scouting. Prior to that he was with Detroit for eight years, including three years as the Director...
