Saturday’s Pirates’ win was pretty nice, eh? Now it’s back to getting crushed by the Cubs. The Bucs found a way to drop a 13-9 decision in Chicago. The Astros were the only team in baseball with fewer runs scored but the Cubs managed to put up a baker’s dozen on the Pirates. Tonight’s series finale is the last time the Bucs will see the Cubs this year and the Bucs need to win to draw even at 8-8 against the awful Cubs. The 8 Cubs’ 8 wins against the Pirates is the most wins they have against any one team this year.
It wasn’t all bad though; the Ninja Turtles did throw out the opening pitch.
The Bucs led 6-1 heading into the bottom half of the fifth but Jeff Locke gave up a solo homer, a 2-run shot and a single before his day ended. And when Chris Resop came in to replace Locke, he gave up an RBI single that made it 6-5 at the end of the inning.
After Pedro Alvarez hit his second Toro Bomb of the game in the sixth – a 3-run shot – the Bucs led 9-5 heading into the bottom half of

Evan Meek Outrighted to Triple-A
Per the MLB.com transactions page, relief pitcher Evan Meek has been outrighted to Indianapolis. The right-hander was designated for assignment last week to make room on the 40-man roster for Rick VandenHurk. His outright assignment means the Pirates will retain him in the organization for now. However, Meek has enough time in baseball to qualify as a minor league free agent after...

McDonald out of Pirates' rotation
James McDonald has been removed from the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting rotation.
McDonald has fallen off considerably since a strong first half. The 27-year-old right-hander has allowed 14 runs in his last three starts -- a total of 12 innings pitched. He walked four batters and allowed four runs in just 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
Manager Clint Hurdle...
Pirates' Pedro Alvarez Is Finally Meeting The Hype in Pittsburgh
Justin K. Aller/Getty ImagesPittsburgh Pirates' Pedro Alvarez is starting to turn the corner. Taking the next step. However, early career struggles had insiders, fans, writers, and everything in-between, labeling him as a “bust”.Let’s not forget that he was the second overall pick in the 2008 draft. So pressure and expectations are sky-high for him, and that’s not anything...
Q&A: Jameson Taillon, Future Pirates Ace
Jameson Taillon has the raw stuff to become a frontline starter. He also has the mentality. The 20-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates prospect has an advanced feel for pitching, which is a reason he could reach the big leagues as soon as next year. Drafted second overall in 2011, the 6-foot-6 right-hander finished the season with Double-A Altoona after spending most of it in High-A. In...
Gallardo, Brewers open critical trip in Pittsburgh
An incredible run over the last month has vaulted the Milwaukee Brewers into the thick of the NL wild-card race.

Worth the wait
The Pirates and Cubs didn’t get under way until 11:42 PM eastern time thanks to a rain delay, but the Bucs actually made it worth the wait with a solid win.
Kevin Correia was remarkable. He pitched probably his best game as a Pirate, completely sailing through the Cubs lineup with no problems at all. He allowed just two hits over seven innings, both singles by Darwin Barney. The...
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago Cubs – Game 146
What an absolutely pathetic display yesterday. Just downright awful. If this team were a horse it would be shot. They are heartless from the manager on down. I really have nothing else to say. Pathetic. Jared Hughes should be shut down, not used four times in five days. The guy is completely drained, but [...]

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Game 147
I’m not sure what MLB was thinking yesterday. If the game was that important it could be made up at the end. Not only that but why was it even a night game? Most games at Wrigley are day games, including the other three games of this series. Why have a getaway game at night? [...]
