TEAMS: New York Mets
After Johan Santana and R.A. Dickey flamed out to start the weekend, the Mets got back on the horse and rode it to a 3-1 win over the Cubs. Just don’t know how the Mets look so horrible against last place teams. They’re 4-7 against the Cubs, Rockies and Astros so far this season.
There wasn’t much to note about the game. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee went eight innings before Bobby Parnell closed it out. The Mets offense came from homeruns from Jordany Valdespin and Ike Davis. Valdespin is going to push his way into this lineup soon enough which causes even more of a crunch for the Mets.
The Mets had an emotional comeback against the Phillies in the 9th inning and then again the Cubs come in and whoop the Mets . But they made it close in the end. These Mets just don’t seem to give up this year where in years past you would turn it off if the other team got the lead. This team is scrappy and has a lot of come from behind wins.
Also thing to note; when Ike is out of the lineup, the Mets...

A shade and a half of crazy – Is R.A. Dickey for real?
The juiciest/craziest story of the summer is not best seller “50 Shades of Grey”. It’s not the dissolving union of Tom-Kat. (Is there hope for any of us?) It’s New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey, who is defying the odds with the rarely used knuckleball.
For the love of god, R.A. Dickey has successfully reinvented himself at a point in his career where even some of the better players...
The Miraculous Evolution Of R.A. Dickey
On Christmas day, 2009, the Mets signed an obscure knuckleballer named R.A. Dickey. The cynical Mets’ fans whispered to each other that the Wilpon family, owners of the franchise, were broke, as a result of the Bernie Madoff scandal, and all they could afford to sign was a mediocre 35 year old career nomad, who had been tried and discarded by four major league franchises. His major...

Mini-slump, knuckler might cost Dickey All-Star start
Now that New York Mets right-hander R.A. Dickey is a first-time All-Star at age 37, the knuckleballer is aiming to start the game for the National League. But he might have put that assignment in jeopardy by giving up five runs to the Phillies in seven innings Thursday, saving one of his worst outings of the season for his final start of the first half. Dickey ultimately escaped...
Gee, Mets shut down Cubs 3-1
By Dave BuscemaThe Sports Xchange NEW YORK -- Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum hoped Jeff Samardzija's last start, when he gave up one run in seven innings in a win against the Braves, would help him forget the pounding the New York Mets put on him last month at Wrigley Field. It may well have, but the Mets still managed to push just enough runs across on home runs from Ike...
Pre-Game: Cubs (32-51) vs. Mets (45-39)
The Mets and Cubs have some history
The Mets look to rebound after last nigh’t loss to the Cubs that saw New York stage a comeback that fell a run shy of beating their former division rivals. The Mets send Dillon Gee to the mound for his last start of the first half of the season, he is opposed Jeff Samardzija.
Today’s game can be seen on SNY with Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez...
Matt Cain, Not R.A. Dickey, Will Start All-Star Game
It must be great to be a San Francisco Giants fan.
Not only did a late push of fan votes elect three starting position players (Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera) to the NL lineup, but now the Giants will also have Matt Cain as the starting pitcher.
John Harper of the New York Daily News tweeted at 9:23 a.m. that “Source says Dickey is not starting All-Star Game....
Mets 3, Cubs 1
Ike Davis homered, Jordany Valdespin hit one out for the second day in a row and Dillon Gee pitched one-run ball for eight innings to help the New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 3-1 Saturday.
Gee (6-7) gave up seven hits without a walk and struck out four to keep up a run of strong starts by Mets pitchers. They've gone at least six innings in 19 of the past 21 games, and have...
Pre-Game: Chicago Cubs (32-52) @ New York Mets (46-39)
Ryan Dempster comes off the DL today to face Jon Niese.
This afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets will be looking for the series victory over the Chicago Cubs. Yesterday afternoon the Mets played a solid game in a 3-1 win. Dillon Gee had probably his best outing of the year. Gee threw eight innings and allowed one run on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts. The most...
Mets’ R.A. Dickey Should be All-Star Game Starter
With the MLB All-Star game a day away, the starting pitchers and lineups have been announced. The starting pitcher for the American League is Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers. The starter opposing him for the National League is Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants. I have an issue with Cain being the starter [...]

Carlos Ruiz to Catch Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in All-Star Game; Matt Cain to Start for N.L.
Who is the better catcher, Buster Posey or Carlos Ruiz? While the voters may have said Posey, National League manager Tony La Russa thinks that Ruiz is best suited to handle the most difficult catching challege of the day: New York Mets pitcher and knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.
Today, Tony La Russa said he will have Chooch warm up with Dickey and they can then enter the game together...
Mets News and Notes: Dickey, Torres, Francisco, Schwinden
Some Mets News and Notes:
Tony La Russa is pondering starting R.A. Dickey in the All-Star game. But the NL manager seems hesitant, considering that none of the catchers on his roster have ever caught Dickey’s knuckleball. Other candidates to start for the NL include Stephen Strasburg, Matt Cain, Cole Hamels, Clayton Kershaw and Gio Gonzalez.
Dickey will appear on “The David...
Dear Mr. Fantasy: BABIP: An Indicator of Regression in Starting Pitchers?
Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP) can be used to determine how ‘lucky’ or ‘unlucky’ a pitcher has been when compared to the league average. The average BABIP for pitchers in 2011 was .295. The average so far in 2012 is .296. It is often said that baseball stats are subject to a ‘regression to the mean’. In other words, if players are experiencing stats far outside...
