The latest freak injury sustained during spring training comes courtesy of Oakland Athletics outfielder Michael Taylor. And it involves a rather bizarre incident with bubble gum.According to SFGate, the 27-year-old has been sidelined lately because of two gashes he suffered on his right pinkie finger, while throwing away a wad of gum. Last week, Taylor was chewing gum in the dugout and hit his hand on a ceiling light as he tossed the used gum in the trash. The resulting damage has kept him from practicing, and could ultimately cost him a chance to make the A's Opening Day roster, too.Taylor says he cannot resume play until the cut has fully closed.Although a longshot to make the team out of spring camp, due to Oakland's massive depth in the outfield, Taylor had previously been working out at first base in an effort to increase his odds of making the squad. His freak accident has put learning the new position on hold.Originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fifth round in the 2007 draft, Taylor is expected to begin the year at Triple-A Sacramento, where he has played for each of the last three seasons. He batted .287/.405/.441 with 12 homers, 18 stolen bases, 31 doubles, and 67 RBI in 2012.Via SFGate
