In a report for ESPN, Buster Olney suggests the Diamondbacks could “join the parade of teams expected to ask the Mets about the availability of third baseman David Wright.” Michael Baron: As I’ve said before, I don’t think the Mets will trade Wright this winter. Aside from the fact they need a healthy and productive Wright at third base this winter, he is coming off a disappointing 2011 campaign in which he struggled on both sides of the ball and spent two months on the disabled list with a broken back. On top of that, if he’s traded, he has the opportunity to void his 2013 option and become a free agent, further weakening his value this winter. I also challenge the Mets to find anyone better to play third base (both internally or outside the organization) regardless of whatever package which might materialize for him.
