For a fourth-string shortstop, Omar Quintanilla has been pretty good. After injuries felled Tejada, Cedeno and Turner, the Mets turned to the veteran Qunitanilla, who has gotten the job done both on the field and at the plate. After 55 PA, Quintanilla has a .326/.436/.478 line with the Mets and in 129 innings in the field, he has a +1 DRS and a +1.1 UZR.
A supplemental first-round pick of the A’s back in 2003, Quintanilla apparently caught a lucky break when he was traded to the Rockies during the 2005 season. Quintanilla showed he could hit in the minors and he went from an organization whose major league team played in a poor hitter’s park to an org with one of the best hitter’s parks in the majors around.
But Quintanilla never got hot at the right time. In brief trials over his first three seasons in the majors, he posted a combined .259 BABIP. He got decent playing time in 2008 but didn’t take advantage, as he posted a .635 OPS over 234 PA. He essentially got labeled a AA...

Pitcher R.A. Dickey made it clear from the start that he wanted no part of it. If he was to get a no-hitter, he wanted it to be controversy-free. He wanted it to be clean.
Dickey, the knuckleball-throwing ace, got his wish Friday when Major League Baseball denied the Mets’ appeal on the ruling of the Rays’ B.J. Upton’s first-inning single in Wednesday’s game that turned...
Jason Bay signed a four-year, $66-million contract with the New York Mets on Dec. 29, 2009, and the deal has been a bust since Day 1.
Meet Jason Bay, Then And Now
Through 11 years as a major leaguer, Bay has established himself as an everyday left fielder – and emergency center fielder – who averages 33 doubles and 29 home runs a year while hitting for a solid average. In 4,890...
Mets Infielder Justin Turner will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, GM Sandy Alderson said.
Turner has been on the disabled list since May 29 with a right ankle sprain and ligament damage in the foot.
Also on the injury front, Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) faced pitching Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.
Well, today is decision day on the appeal that the Mets filed hoping that MLB would overturn the play that was scored a hit during R.A. Dickey’s spectacular start against the Rays.
That one hit turned out to be the only one the Rays would get that day, and the masses are split as to whether it was actually a hit or an error by third baseman David Wright, who flubbed the play...
R.A. Dickey pitched a complete game one-hitter, but was it really a hit?
New York Mets knuckleballer, R.A. Dickey, has been tremendous this season, absolutely tremendous. There are no words left to describe the year he is having. Last year Dickey had great games but the team would find a way to lose. This year he’s mowing everyone down and currently has a record of 10-1 with...

With Ike Davis swinging the bat well, the NY Mets have a tough decision to make as far as roster spots.
It’s big decision time for the New York Mets and someone just made it very very hard.
Ike Davis is finally heating up and looking like he might be locked in. This isn’t the random hit then back to nothing scenario we have seen so far this season. In his past few games Davis...
To borrow a phrase from the great Walt Clyde Frazier, Ike Davis “is starting to percolate”. We were all wondering when it was going to come, and it finally may have started. More than 2 months into the season Ike Davis has begun to put together quality at-bats on a nightly basis over the past week or so.
Over the last 7 days Ike has begun to heat up. He is 9 for his last 16 and...
Once again, boom goes the dynamite. The Mets offensive barrage against the Tampa Bay Rays leaked into the final game of the series, helping the team secure an interleague sweep in a 9-6 victory.
The offense continued to be timely. Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Jason Bay kicked off the game with a pair of solo shots. The jumpstart helped the Mets stay in the game despite the continued struggles...
The New York Mets went more than 50 years and 8,000 games without ever recording a no-hitter, a streak that Johan Santana finally snapped June 1 against the St. Louis Cardinals. If they get their way, they'll suddenly have two in less than two weeks. Prior to his club's 9-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, manager Terry Collins said that the Mets have appealed...
Mets pitcher R.A Dickey just recently became the first pitcher to reach 10 wins this season. Dickey Pitched all nine innings with one run scored(un earned though). Not only did Dickey become the first to 10 wins he also had a streak of no run innings, that previously ended, at 32 and 2/3 innings. R.A a fenomenal knuckle ball pitcher has pitched amazingly with a 2.20 ERA and 90 total...
New York Mets manager Terry Collins took fault with Johan Santana's most recent outing.
Jeremy Hellickson of the Tampa Bay Rays only has himself to blame for his latest performance.
Coming off another pitching milestone, the Mets hope Santana can rebound from one of his worst starts of the season when he opposes Hellickson, who goes for his first victory in a month in Thursday...
It must be something I give off. I wasn't wearing any Mets stuff early in my day on Wednesday. Yet all I had to do was mention to a couple of other people in the hotel I was staying at that I live in Queens for them to tell me that they were big Mets fans and start talking baseball.
Then I got to a restaurant to enjoy a meal while wearing swim trunks and a ratty Eric Clapton...

Yesterday, WFAN’s Mike Francesa discussed how Mets broadcasters Howie Rose and Gary Cohen were “out of line” during this past weekend’s Subway Series.
Francesa said that it’s great that the Mets have fans as announcers, but that they sometimes take it too far in rooting for their team, especially against the Yankees.
Frankly, I love that Rose and Cohen are as die-hard of...
