Drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the second round of the 2010 MLB Amateur draft, Kellen Sweeney is a six foot tall, left hand hitting infielder, currently improving his game with the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest League. Kellen was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Jefferson High School, becoming only the eighth baseball player(and third Blue Jay) to be drafted by a big league club. Despite being in the middle of his third full season as a professional baseball player, Kellen was nice enough to take the time and answer a few questions for me. When asked about his favourite ball player growing up, Kellen echoed the statements of many young infielders who grew up in the Midwest. “My favourite ball player growing up was Chipper Jones. Growing up in the Midwest, the [Atlanta] Braves were always on TBS so I would always watch them. [He] was a great player and someone to look up to.” Like many youth today, Kellen played two sports growing up, but it didn’t take long for him t...

Melky Cabrera Gets The Silent Treatment After First Jays Dinger

Melky Cabrera finally got his first home run as a Toronto Blue Jay, and he was treated with the old silent treatment from his teammates. As some ball clubs do traditionally, they give a player the silent treatment instead of mobbing him for a milestone or hazing treatment. The Jays felt Melky stroking his first home run as a Blue Jay deserved the cold shoulders. It made for a...

In the grand scheme of things, this means absolutely nothing, except that John Farrell is doing a heck of a job as Red Sox manager. Every so often, Public Policy Polling — a U.S. polling firm mostly known for putting out polls on key political races — releases some results that are fun for sports fans to take a look at. On Friday, the company tweeted that Farrell received a 1...

LaRoche Comes Through in Extras for Bisons

Buffalo, NY - By all means, the game was not pretty. The Buffalo Bisons and Louisville Bats combined to leave 28 men on base and were 4-for-33 with runners in scoring position.  That didn’t stop Andy LaRoche from playing the hero role in the first extra-inning game of the Bisons season, as he lined a ball over Billy Hamilton’s head in centerfield to drive in Mauro Gomez for...

As the title says, the R.A. Dickey deal just keeps looking better and better and that’s with the key piece to the deal sitting on the disabled list for nearly a month. A post by Josh Chapdelaine of Around Citi brought to my attention just how bad things are going for the reigning Cy Young this season. “The knuckleballer racked up his fifth loss of the year”, writes Chapdelaine...
