Mets Merized Online:
Let’s see, do I have everything? Lap-top, check. Digital camera, check. Voice recorder check. Sandwiches check. Cell phone, of course, looks like I’m ready to go! New Britain here I come and I will be preceded by the Double-A version of a wrecking crew from Binghamton known as the B-Mets.
I sent word ahead, a little advanced warning so-to-speak, when I reached out to Matt den Dekker today and told him I would be at these next four games, and asked him if he would have a little time to answer some questions for our readers at MMO. He said he would have some time, and seeing as he is red-hot with the bat right now and simply scorching the ball to the tune of a .386/.429/.636 slash line in his last ten games, with five doubles, two HR’s and eight RBI’s, I better keep my distance in case he spontaneously combusts.
There should be lots of interesting B-Mets tid-bits coming your way here on MMO all this week. I’m going to go the distance for you to answer once and for all your burning B-...
BEST OF MAXIM
Injuries to Mike Pelfrey(above) and Miguel Batista have opened the door for Jeremy Hefner to show what he has got.
After a season ending injury to Mike Pelfrey and some early bullpen woes, the Mets reached down to AAA and recalled Jeremy Hefner. Hefner was placed on waivers twice this offseason, and was eventually picked up by the Mets.
Hefner was brought in to be insurance for...
Mike Baxter is being rewarded for his solid play and is not only starting tonight, but is batting leadoff. Baxter, who is hitting .390 with 7 doubles and 8 RBI.
Ike Davis will get the start at 1B, and looks to finally break out of this season long slump. There has been a lot of chatter about sending Fearless down to Buffalo, but Collins is trying to be patient with his first baseman.
Regression to the mean can be a cruel thing. Maybe that’s why it’s called “mean.” The Mets seem to be running full-speed, headlong in that direction.
Since busting out 4-0 against Atlanta and Washington, Terry Collins’s crew has gone a definition-of-mediocre 18-20. Much as I hate to say it, perhaps the preseason prognosticators were right: weak starting pitching...
There’s no other way to put tonight but this way, it was a disappointment. The Mets were given a 4-0 lead by the Pirates and Erik Bedard early, only to watch Santana give it up on a late inning long ball. Ultimately, the Mets would lose on something they themselves were unable to do earlier in the game…hit a sacrifice fly.
Michael McKenry‘s two-run game tying homer off...

The Mets look to avoid a sweep and three losses in a row as they take on the Blue Jays this afternoon. Yesterday the Mets received good pitching as after Batista left with...
Yesterday afternoon the Mets were shutout by the Blue Jays 2-0. Brandon Morrow threw a complete game 3 hitter. The closest the Mets came to scoring was in the 9th inning when with 1 out and a man on 1st, Mike from Whitestone lined one down the right field line and was thrown out at 2nd by Jose Bautista. The replay showed that Baxter was safe. Today, Dillon Gee (sans goatee...
Ron Darling should know better. When he led off the broadcast by saying "oh well with the Pirates and Padres coming up on the schedule, you might think 'hey the Mets could go 5-2'", he started to sound too much like my late night conversations trying to be presumptuous about what's an "easy win" and what's not. I know Darling finished that thought...
For some reason the Mets do not play well in Pittsburgh. Below I pulled out the Mets numbers when the play Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh all the way back to 2004, when David Wright joined the team. Over that time, the Mets went from horrible, to awesome, to horrible. The Pirates over that time have just been horrible.
2012: 0-1 @ Pitsburgh
2011: 2-2 @ Pittsburgh
2010: 2-1 @ Pittsburgh...
TORONTO -- Right-hander Dillon Gee allowed five hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings and David Wright drove in two runs with a first-inning double as the New York Mets held off the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 on Sunday. Mike Baxter was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle before an announced crowd of 41,867 at Rogers Centre as the Mets ended their two-gake losing skid and stopped...
The New York Mets (23-20) defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates (20-23) tonight by a score of 3-2. The New York Mets evened the series at one a piece with tonights win.
TORONTO - Dillon Gee understands that what happens in baseball cannot always be explained. He merely proved it to himself again on Sunday when he pitched 6 2/3 innings as the New York Mets defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 before 41,867 at Rogers Centre to avoid a three-game sweep in the interleague series. "This is a crazy game, I was all over the place today," said...
