The Mets are now negotiating with Ben Sheets. I assume that after they looked over his medical records which they got a hold of last week, they decided Sheets was a good risk. Last night on MLB Network, we learned that Sheets and the Mets were far apart. According to Tom Verducci from SI.com, The Mets want to give Sheets a small guaranteed base salary and load the deal with tons of incentives. The problem is that Sheets said, he wants more guaranteed money because he proved he was healthy by virtue of his 198 innings pitched last season. He's looking for 2-3 years and about $9 million per season. Meanwhile, the Oliver Perez talks have hit a standstill. I'm starting to think that there's more to it than just money. If another team signs Oliver Perez, the Mets will get two draft picks including the signing team's first round draft pick.
