Michael Pineda, the Yankees' high-profile acquisition, is on the disabled list. The Blue Jays finished their spring with a 23-5 record, which is probably some sort of record for records that don't count. Jayson Stark says we should believe in them. I don't, yet. Spring is just too different, with pitchers shuffling around and some minor leaguers in the lineup. But I'll concede that it's worrisome.

An explanation of what happened to Michael Pineda’s shoulder

Michael Pineda, the man whom the Yankees gambled on to be the frontrunner of their youth movement, has begun his 2012 season with the Yankees with a stumble out of the gate. Traded from Seattle for highly touted prospect Jesus Montero, he will begin his Yankee career on the disabled list with shoulder tendonitis.  This injury carries a possibility of high impact on the pitching...

Michael Pineda Headed To the DL: When Will the Yankees Pitcher Return?

If you haven’t heard by now, the Yankees have placed Michael Pineda on the 15 day DL to begin the season. The reports of Pineda’s velocity being down started spreading at the beginning of Spring Training and now I guess we know why Pineda wasn’t throwing as hard. Let’s take a look at Pineda’s injury and the effect it will have on the Yankees. When I first heard reports...

Yankees roster decision down to long-man in the ‘pen

It’s beginning to look more and more like the Yankees will take lefty Clay Rapada as the 24th guy on the roster and the 25th player will probably end up coming down to a choice between Adam Warren, David Phelps, and D.J. Mitchell. The Yankees broke Hector Noesi into the major leagues that way last season and the plan before he was traded was for him to eventually move into the...

Profiling the Empire State Yankees Starting Rotation

One of the more interesting stories in the minors this season will be the Triple-A starting rotation. David Phelps, Adam Warren, DJ Mitchell, Manny Banuelos, and Dellin Betances all could begin the year as starters. Manny and Dellin represent high ceiling talents still a year or so away from contributing to the major league team. Phelps, Warren, and Mitchell are already considered...

New York Yankees: Bullpen might be without Boone

Just as Spring Training is about to close, Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News tweeted that New York Yankees lefty specialist Boone Logan showed up at the ballpark today with back problems and was heading to the doctor. Shortly after, Mark Craig at the Star Ledger confirmed that Logan was sent to get an MRI exam. Well, this is not great news as Logan was the Yankees best and...

Yankees trade Kontos for Stewart and send Cervelli to AAA

In a flurry of moves this afternoon, the Yankees made a few that don’t make a whole lot of sense. It appears that Austin Romine will start the season on the DL with his back injury and the Yankees needed another catcher. So what they did was they traded George Kontos to the San Francisco Giants for backup catcher Chris Stewart, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle...

Quote: Teixeira on adjustments he’s made this spring

Mark Teixeira hasn’t bunted since before his days in high school, but that didn’t stop him from talking about wanting to lay a few day this season in an effort to get teams to give up on the extreme shift they implement when he’s at the plate. He has quickly backed off that stance though and instead has insisted that if he can just manage to hit a few more balls to the opposite...

Russell Branyan plans on swinging a bat soon

George King of the NY Post caught up with Russell Branyan to get a explanation for why he got released and re-signed another contract with the Yankees on the same day. The reason was as expected, the Yankees wanted to avoid a $100K payment to him, but when discussing it Branyan revealed that he expects to take swings soon. “Guys are guaranteed a certain amount of money the...

The Yankee Beat: Luxury tax, Cape Cod, and Jose Campos

Today was the final day of spring training and the day the Yankees finally set their roster. Here was what the blogosphere was talking about. Bryan over at The Greedy Pinstripes had a good piece on gaming the luxury tax system. Mike Axisa of River Ave Blues ran down a list of some of the standouts from the Cape Cod League. Marc Hulet of FanGraphs included the newly acquired...

Clay Rapada makes the Yankees Opening Day roster

In an expected move, left handed reliever Clay Rapada has been told that he will start the season on the Yankees Opening Day roster, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News. Rapada, a 31-year-old with a career OBP of .153 and an OPS of .472 against left handed hitters, had a strong spring training, but was helped out with a few timely injuries. The injury to Cesar Cabral...

MLB Preview: New York Yankees Ready For Centerstage

Some think the AL East is a wide open division, I don’t. I think the New York Yankees are a near lock to win the division. They have more pitching, better hitting and superior finances than anyone else in the game, let alone the East. It seems to me that what we should be talking about in regards to this team is whether or not they can clinch the home field advantage. There are...

Joba Chamberlain’s Subtalar Dislocation

Joba Chamberlain of the New York Yankees addressed the media last Tuesday to discuss the injury he sustained the week prior while playing with his son on a trampoline in a recreation center. Though Chamberlain has said he will return to the mound before the close of the 2012 season, no one is counting on it. The 26 year-old right-hander, who was already fighting his way back from...

Mets Host The Yankees Today At 2 PM, Torres Batting Leadoff

The New York Yankees come to Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie this afternoon for the first of two spring training games against the Mets. The second game is to be played at George Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The Yankees have not played at the Mets’ spring training home since the spring of 1995. The teams last met for a spring game in Tampa on March 30, 1996 (the Mets won...
