The Venezuela native has been bothered by ankle injuries the past two seasons. He was a free agent after last season and did not receive any offers to his liking. He is best remembered in Detroit for his game-winning homer in Game 4 of the 2006 AL Championship Series against Oakland.

Verlander struggles, falls to Yanks
DETROIT Justin Verlander wasn't about to blameMagglio Ordonez for his loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Game 2012.54: Yankees at Tigers
Detroit Tigers, 25-28, 5 games behind Chicago. Day-to-Day injuries: 3–Add Benoit, with forearm tightness. Dirks officially to the 15-day DL. Matt Young called up from Toledo.
He had only been on the team a couple of days, and had been having a nightmare of an evening, committing 2 errors and seeing 5 runners steal on him. But Omir Santos had one thing in his favor: he hadn’t...

DETROIT -- Jim Leyland will have the bounty of two healthy players on his bench Sunday against the Yankees.

Leyland takes Detroit's lefty hitters to task
First it was right-handed hitters not being able to solve left-handers and now the lefties' inability to do anything with right-handers is stalling out the Detroit offense. Phil Hughes stymied the Tigers on four hits and eight strikeouts over nine innings Sunday in a 5-1 victory by the New York Yankees. Detroit's only run came on a solo home run by Prince Fielder in...
Epic Cabrera homers help Tigers edge Yanks

Although neither one of Cabrera's two homers proved to be the game-winner in the Detroit Tigers' 4-3 walk-off victory over the New York Yankees Saturday night in front of 44,593 at Comerica Park, they had everyone buzzing after the game.
The first one came when Cabrera led off the fourth inning...
