Reynolds powers O’s to series win in New York; Birds two back of Yanks

For most of the 2012 season, Mark Reynolds was a disappointment. His production – 12 HR 42 RBI entering Friday’s game – was way down from what he did in 2011, when he hit 37 home runs and drove in 86 runs, both team highs. However, he has recently been a very pleasant surprise as a first baseman, solidifying the position defensively, while not quite putting up the kind of numbers...

Orioles have golden opportunity to climb back atop division standings

We have heard countless times from Buck Showalter over the past month that no mater what the current wild card or division standings may look like, his club still has its eyes set on catching New York. Many may laugh that thought off as surely none of us would have written in the Orioles as the division winner for the AL East this year – but given the current standings the O’s...

Mark Reynolds makes flying catch of Yankees line drive

The Baltimore Orioles rolled into Yankee Stadium with a lot to prove on Friday night.  Only three games separate the O's from the from the first-place New York Yankees in the AL East and the black and orange birds don't want to do their annual swan song down the stretch. If unbelievable catches show that the Orioles mean business, then Mark Reynolds set the tone early and...

Vote: Have the A's or Orioles Been a Bigger Surprise This Year?

As far as surprise teams go, this MLB season has had plenty -- and not all of them have been good. The Red Sox are among those wondering what has happened since the first lineup card landed just a few months ago. But several teams have performed far above expectations, leaving their fans with plenty to root for as the final chunk of the season approaches and teams gear up for the...

Orioles-Blue Jays Preview

The Baltimore Orioles could use a better effort from Joe Saunders as they try to continue an improbable surge toward the top of the AL East. The recently-acquired left-hander will try to bounce back from a difficult Baltimore debut Monday when the Orioles open a three-game road set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Baltimore (74-59) was third in the East and 7 1/2 games behind the...

The biggest series in 15 years

The Orioles won game one, but dropped game two of the biggest series in the recent history in New York City. The Orioles currently sit three games behind the Yankees as they try to do what many consider the impossible, take the American League East. I honestly never thought I would be writing those words but there they are and the Orioles have a legitimate shot at the number one...

Baltimore Orioles 6 — New York Yankees 1   Absent offense shut down by rookie Gonzalez in the 6-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.   Hiroki Kuroda pitched effectively and efficiently but the home runs loom large when the offense cannot be found. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits but the biggest hits were the long ball. All-or-nothing batter, Mark Reynolds, had a big night for...

Yanks go back ahead by 3 games in AL East with 4-3 wn over Orioles

By Dave Buscema, The Sports Xchange NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees had watched the Baltimore Orioles jump on them early again. The Orioles again showed they were not intimidated by the puzzled looks of those who question how they are still in the pennant race, or the Yankee Stadium atmosphere -- which often deflates teams this time of year. So, the Yankees were beset with an...
