Brian Roberts may be the longest tenured member of the Baltimore Orioles but the status of the oft-injured second baseman is still unclear. Roberts missed the first four months of the 2010 season with a back injury. He returned shortly after Buck Showalter’s hiring. Roberts went on to play in 59 games that season with a .745 OPS and 12 stolen bases. The start of the 2011 season was greeted with high hopes in Baltimore. Roberts was counted on to have a healthy bounce back year. The former All Star’s season went downhill in a hurry. He hit just .221 in 39 games before missing the rest of the season with post concussion symptoms. With the start of Spring Training less than two months away Roberts and the Orioles have been vague in their prognosis. At this point Roberts cannot be counted on to begin the 2012 season at second base. In fact, he may not be able to play at all. Ryan Flaherty could stick with the Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles selected former Cubs first round pick Ryan Flaherty in the Rule 5 draft a few weeks ago. Flaherty has a chance to not only make the Orioles opening day roster but he could be a contributor. Flaherty is a fairly advanced hitter after being drafted out of college and reaching Triple-A last season. The 25 year old was unimpressive in his short Triple-A stint...

Baltimore Orioles should sign Edwin Jackson

Dan Duquette has had an uneventful tenure as the Baltimore Orioles GM. He’s been on the job less than two months but in that time he has done little to improve the on field product. Baltimore had baseball’s worst pitching staff in 2011. Duquette has added only Japanese lefty Tsuyoshi Wada to the team’s starting rotation. The Orioles are going to need significant...

Baltimore Orioles Bandit Makes Pre-Christmas Withdrawal From BOA

Via the Sun-Sentinel: The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who robbed a Wellington bank on Thursday. Officials said a man in a Baltimore Orioles baseball cap walked into a Bank of America on Forest Hill Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. He passed a note to a teller that said he had a gun. Afraid for her life, the teller gave the man the cash from the register...

Orioles Hire Economist Stephen Walters

As I mentioned last week, the Orioles have hired Loyola economics professor Stephen Walters to the organization. Walters worked with Dan Duquette previously in Boston, and has been with the Chicago Cubs most recently. CamdenDepot has links to several of his posts at Wages of Wins here, which make for some good reads - I especially enjoyed the comment sections. After answering some...
